A75M-D2H and Windows 7 Mass Storage Driver?

A75M-D2H and Windows 7 Mass Storage Driver?
« on: November 12, 2011, 12:51:40 pm »
Hi Folks
I bought a A75M-D2H Mobo and I cannot for the life of me get Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installed. At the installation screen it states that
the mass storage device driver cannot be found and hence no hard disks are displayed to select the disk. The HD is a Samsung SpinPoint 500GB
and is shown in the BIOS correctly. I have tried native IDE mode and also AHCI and also downloaded the AHDCI drivers. When a compatible driver is discovered I can hear the DVD drive spin up and some activity as if everything looks like its going to work but then I get dumped back at the previous screen again with the same options.
Anyone have any suggestions, trying to get my HTPC all setup!!!
Thanks
Rich

Hi Rich,

which version of the Samsung SpinPoint do you have?

On some Samsung a firmware update is needed to work properly on newer motherboards and this may be the situation that you are facing. You can check the Samsung site here to see if your drive needs the firmware update: http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/faqView.do?b2b_bbs_msg_id=308
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

I thinl it wants to boot to your CD/DVD not the HD. See what happens when you disconnect the CD/DVD.....

Hi Folks
I have actually been through all the suggested  information previously, HOWEVER, I missed the actual fix on one of them. The discussion went on for 14 posts after the OP actually already had a solution. Basically I ran DISKPART and did a clean all at the disk selection Windows install screen and then after a couple of reboots I know have Windows 7 installing!!!!!!!!!!!! Gees what a mare that was. I wont be buying Samsung disks again, not sure what that is all about. I've only ever experienced issues like this on servers when installing 2008 and that is normally just a driver.

Thanks Teknology for directing me back to this article, I wsas just about to go up PC World and buy another drive.  ;D MUCH APPRECIATED!
Thanks also to all others that took the time out to respond very impressed!
Cheers
Rich
