Continuous restarts after bios screen: Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3-B3 Z68

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum and in need of help from the experts.  I am more knowledgeable than the average user, however this problem has me completely stumped.

The problem came about one day when I was simply browsing the internet and my computer rebooted itself.  Upon trying to restart the computer would post, then the bios screen comes up, then right after that a black screen that says loading operating system comes up.  This is where the computer hangs up, the screen goes completely black, stays there for about 4 seconds and then automatically restarts itself.  No error messages or anything.

I had originally thought that this was some sort of virus because due to some google searching that was one of the top results.  However I am now leaning towards some sort of hardware problem and I dont know where to start.

One thing I did try to do was put the windows CD in and reformat the machine (assuming it was a virus) and the computer wont let me boot to a CD.  Next I assumed that the CD drive might be bad for some reason so I tried to use a flash drive that had windows 7 loaded on it and it wouldnt let me boot to the usb flash drive either.  I have tried to change the boot order on both attempts and either put the CD rom or USB drive first but nothing seems to work.  It just skips to the black screen that says loading operating system and then reboots itself.

If it helps at all the specs for my rig are:

Intel 2500k processor
ATI Radeon 4870 HD GPU
Gigabyte  GA-Z68X-UD3-B3 Z68 1155 Mother Board
Samsun 1TB 7000 HD
LG CD Rom/ DVD burner
8 gigs ram

Also I have tested the ram and that is not what is causing the issue.   im beginning to think this is motherboard related.  Any way to test this?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi

The next thing to try is to clear the CMOS. Please follow these instructions exactly.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Hi boodzone,

What wattage of PSU do you have and how old is it just out of interest? Also, have you tested the memory with Memtest?

Hi boodzone, and friends,

If you have fix a hardware problems, maybe you have a soft problems.

Test and check your netware security.

For antimalware, check with

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/smitfraudfix.php
Place the .exe file on the Desktop. Modify name like MyFix.exe
load it. Wait and check lines appear.

You have a tuto here.

Thanks for the tip dark mantis I will have to try that as soon as I get off work today.

To answer some of the other questions this whole computer build is 3 months old.  Everything is brand new minus the video card.  The power supply is 750 tx corsair.

I did not test the memory with memtest but i did try both sticks individually and then even one brand new stick of ram right out of the box.

Regarding the malware post i cant even get to tge desktop so the instructions you gave me will not do.

Thanks for the advice so far i will post back after work with results.

Just got done testing this suggestion and it worked flawlessly!!  Thank you so much for your help with the issue that I was having.  Top notch service.
