A75m-D2H (Rev 1.0) - accessing BIOS and installing Windows 7 OEM

1) I'm not able to access BIOS settings by pressing the DEL key after booting a newly built system. What am I doing wrong?

2) I'm having difficulting in installing Windows 7 OEM on DVD as system hangs during booting and gives message "installing operating system ..."

Hi and welcome.

1) I would take it that you are trying to use a USB keyboard. I would suggest getting a PS2 version even if it is just for BIOS use. You may find that the Legacy USB Devices are not enabled in the BIOS and so you have no drivers until Windows is loaded.

2) Again this might be down to BIOS settings but you could try clearing the CMOS this way to see if it helps with your second problem.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Thank you for your warm welcome and timely response, Dark Mantis.

I'm pleased to say that the two issues were resolved at 1 am this morning.  :)

1) Accessing the BIOS screen was incredibly difficult until I pressed the Tab and Del keys.

2) Once the BIOS screen was accessed I was able to change various settings such as using the motherboard's optimised defaults and changing the primary boot device to DVD. Installating Windows 7 was a "walk in the park".

It seems the motherboard is very finicky. :(

This is my very first attempt at building a PC and am grateful for your advice, Dark Mantis, as it increased my level of understanding in resolving future mobo issues.

ATM, I am using a USB keyboard but could I attach a PS2 adapter to convert it into a PS2 keyboard? I'd assume it does work.

Yes a PS2 adapter would work but it is better to just buy a cheap PS2 keyboard to keep for just this sort of eventuality. They are so cheap that it is not worth worrying about and always useful as a spare of for faultfinding etc.

Glad to hear that you managed to get it working anyway, well done! You might find a later BIOS version will come along which will make things more stable. If you are tempted to update the BIOS though I would advise the use of QFlash the BIOS utility rather then chancing @BIOS which can be risky.

We are here if you require any further help now or later anyway. Good luck.  ;)
