Gigabyte Z68X-UD5 lan issue

Gigabyte Z68X-UD5 lan issue
« on: November 25, 2011, 09:22:31 am »
I've recently built a system using the Gigabyte Z68X-UD5 but I have not been able to get the onboard LAN to work.

Firstly the onboard LAN is Enabled in the BIOS. It has the F6 version of the BIOS on that it shipped with, F9 looks to be the newest but I haven't updated it.

The system boots without issue but it complains about the network in the system tray, if you look in Device Manager there is no 'Network adapters' section, it's just not there. I've tried updating the LAN drivers using the ones Windows 7 suggests, the ones on the supplied motherboard DVD, and the ones from the Gigabyte website. They all either install (and it still doesn't work), or fail saying as much as 'You don't have a LAN adapter' - I assume because it's not showing in Device Manager.

Then (randomly?) the 'Network adapters' section in Device Manager will appear after a restart. I can then enter IP details and update the driver as I want but then it just stays on the 'Network cable unplugged' error.

Also throughout all this there is never any activity lights for the LAN on the back of the case.

I found this post which sounds very similar although it's for a different version motherboard, has anybody else experienced anything similar with a Z68X-UD5 or could suggest what this might be other than an RMA?

Thanks.

Hi and welcome.

I would suggest starting from scratch here and start with a clean drive and then instal Windows followed by the LAN driver off the supplied disk. If after that as you have ensured that the correct drivers have ben installed if it is still not working then I think an RMA is in order.

Hi Dark Mantis,

Thanks for the welcome. This is a new build and the first time Windows was installed on the HDD was last night. I will format again this evening and try everything again from scratch.

Regards.

I think this is the best way to go and if you still have problems then look into returning it to the retailer for a replacement.
