M68M-S2P Memory Upgrade Problem

Hi.  This is my first post and this looks an incredible forum and knowledge base.

I have just tried to upgrade my memory fit to 4GB with Kingston KVR800D2N6/2G Rams but when I fit both of them the system will not boot up.
If I only fit one then all is fine.

Prior to this I  had 2 1GB RAMs fitted so I'm sure the two slots on the motherboard are okay

AMD Athlon 64 x2 5600+ at 2.8GHz
Windows 7  32 bit OS

The motherboard is Rev 2.3 and I have the latest BIOS load.

Memory settings in the BIOS are all set at auto

Has anyone seen this problem and fixed it?

Hi and welcome.

The most obvious question is have you checked the QVL on Kingston's website to see if the memory that you have purchased is compatible with your motherboard ? It might not be and that could be the porblem.

Yes I had checked to make sure I bought and fitted the right ones.  The Kingston RAMs are recommended by the motherboard compatibility table on Gigabyte's website.

I've also tried some 2GB Crucial RAMs and get the same results.

To be honest I would double check with the link that I posted for you as Gigabyte's QVL is often out of date so to be safe check with Kingston's.

Can you list your hardware please so we have a better idea of the system.

I checked out the link you provided but the site only covers latest 1066MHz and 1333MHz devices and the motherboard certainly supports 800/667 and 533MHz DDR2

Simple system setup,  is as follows
PSU 300W
Samsung SP160N SATA drive
TSSTcorp  CD/DVDW TS-H653l SCSI

AMD Athlon 64 x2 5600+ at 2.8GHz
Windows 7  32 bit OS

The motherboard is Rev 2.3 and I have the latest BIOS rev FC.
Using both on board graphics and sound

Currently running with only one 2GB strip of RAM fitted to DDR2_1

Your PSU is  rather on the low powered side even if it is new and if it isn't then it will be actually producing less than that. The motherboard manual recommmends 500W minimum. What make and model is the PSU ?

Hi again.  The basic system was an HP6202a where the motherboard went U/S a while ago so I changed it for the Gigabyte one.
The PSU is a Bestec ATX-300-12Z.
I've also monitored the output voltages and they are all at nominal.

I borrowed a 500W supply today and tried that but it was still the same, not booting with two ram cards fitted.
