Extremely low Voltage reading on 2700K

Hi, I own Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 LGA1155 motherboard with intel i7 2700K on it... I overclocked the motherboard on 4.6 ghz by changing multiplier to 46 (nothing else) I get extremely low voltage reading for this, and I happen to believe that there is something wrong with motherboard, maybe there is some fix available?

Hi

Have you checked to see if there is a newer BIOS available ? If there is I should update it with QFlash. If not you could always try an older one say F5.

I take it that you have disabled EIST etc ?

The system is very stable... Played metro 2033 for couple hours... No problems what so ever.

Thanks for that bit of info there Gloup_Gloup as it was something I wasn't aware of although I can't say that I am surprised by it because if you think about it there is only a lower end graphics capability on the CPU compared to the GPUs that mostly support DX11.

Although the CPU Voltage may seem low, if everything is running fine and you are not suffering from BSOD's or the like then I don't think you have anything to be worried about. In fact, I would be pleased if I could get performance at low voltage as this means less heat from the CPU.

As I don't actually run an Intel chip I can't say if the voltage for your CPU is low ( I will leave that up to others with more knowledge of this platform) but I would assume that like my own AMD System this board utilises LLC which actually lowers the voltage to the CPU when it is put under load to protect it. This seems to be a contradiction but it works and I often see my CPU voltage (I'm running an AMD 1090T) drop from 1.55V when idle to 1.24V or lower when I push it. This is fine and really not an issue as long as the PC is stable.

I would have to agree with absic's sensible comments there. Stability is all important and as long as your system is stable who cares if it runs on 0v.  The less voltage the less heat as some guru somewhere said recently! All the newer Intel chips are heading this way and the latest ones run on very little power at all.

The more I get involved in the forum, the more I see the diversity of responses ... and complementarity.
In short, I feel like a contribution certainly practical, but also theoretical.
While you, and Absic Aussie Allan .. (I name them all those who help on the forum ...) you have a message how-to, based on the experience of every day (Q & A on the forum) and practice on real hardware.
