Z68MA-D2H-B3 Intel VGA Drivers not working
« on: June 11, 2011, 06:22:03 pm »
Z68MA-D2H-B3 mobo
core i5 2500k
Windows 7 professional 64-bit

Every time I tried to install the intel VGA drivers, my computer would crash at the windows startup screen.
I put in a graphics card and everything then worked perfectly and I was able to load into windows, successfully install and boot with the intel VGA drivers, but as soon as I removed the video card and attempted to use the core i5 2500k hd 3000 graphics, they just weren't recognized. (i.e. windows experience graphics rating of 1.0)

Things I've tried
-Multiple versions of the intel VGA drivers, including the latest 2401
-Reinstalled windows 7
-Upgraded to F3 bios
-Installed all latest windows 7 updates
-Swapped out all ram/power supply/another core i5 2500k processor, still would not recognize the hd 3000 graphics.

I determined the mobo was faulty, returned it, got a new Z68MA-D2H-B3, and am having the same exact problem.

Now I realize the chance of 2 defective motherboards in a row is most likely user error, but I've tried everything suggested, swapped out every part (minus the hard drive), and still no luck.  I read a review on a certain site where another user was having the same exact problem, and considering most people with this mobo do not use the hd 3000 graphics, this problem would be under-reported  ( I would have never known if I was using a video card).

Anymore suggestions or am I a blind fool for missing something?  I've built multiple computers before so I sorta know what I'm doing, but no experience using integrated graphics.

Perhaps my windows 7 install was faulty?  Thanks for the help.

Hi and welcome tot he Gigabyte forum.

I am as yet fairly unfamiliar with the new Z68 chipset but it still works along the same lines as the rest so let's see what we can come up with.

What BIOS did you have installed to start with and what methoid of updating did you use to load F3 ?

Did you have the same problem with the original BIOS or didn't you check then ?

Have you checked in the BIOS to make sure that the onboard graphics is selected as primary ?

Which port are you trying to use for the display ?

Both motherboards came with the F2 bios and were upgraded using QFlash.

Did you have the same problem with the original BIOS or didn't you check then ?

There was never a "problem" with the bios.  The only problem is the HD 3000 graphics not being recognized.

Have you checked in the BIOS to make sure that the onboard graphics is selected as primary ?

Yes,  "Init Display First" is set to "Onboard".
"Onboard VGA" is set to "Always Enable".

Which port are you trying to use for the display ?

I've tried both DVI and the blue one (VGA?).

Just in case you didn't realise you cannot use an adapter to connect to the DVI port on the motherboard.

Did you have a problem with the BIOS supporting the onboard graphics  on the F2 version ?

No adapter is used.

Yeah, which is why I tried upgrading to F3.

If anyone else has this board and is using a video card, try installing the intel VGA drivers and removing the video card and let me know if the HD 3000 graphics work for you.

Well next is the clearing the CMOS then. Please follow these instructions exactly.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Followed instructions exactly and verified that CMOS was cleared.  Still no luck.

EDIT - I also swapped hard drives and tried installing the intel VGA drivers; same exactly problem, crashes while windows is loading.

Try just running one stick of memory in the first slot. Sometimes that can increase stability for installation.

You say crashes, do you ever get BSODs ?

Try just running one stick of memory in the first slot. Sometimes that can increase stability for installation.

With the first hard drive, once I installed the intel VGA drivers, the computer would crash during windows 7 startup screen (no BSOD, just blackness).  When I installed a video card, I was able to install and boot into windows with the drivers.  Once I removed the video card, the computer would still boot into windows, but not recognize the HD 3000 graphics (device manager showed the Intel VGA drivers as being installed).

With the 2nd hard drive I used, I had the same issue of crashing during windows 7 startup.  I tried using one stick of ram, still no luck.

You say crashes, do you ever get BSODs ?

No, and with the drivers installed, there are never any crashes, just zero graphics.

After reading all the reviews I could find on the internet and based on my own personal experience with 2 of these motherboards, I've come to a conclusion.

The Z68MA-D2H-B3 mobo is not compatible with the HD 3000 graphics from the core i5 2500k.

The majority of users would never notice this if using a processor w/out HD 3000 graphics or a discrete GPU.

I'm willing to try anymore suggestions (all of which are appreciated), although I've exhausted nearly every possible solution.  I've swapped every component out with known working components, and to have two mobos in a row fail with the same unique glitch, one can only assume either many or all other of these mobos are defective (or I've defied the laws of probability with my bad luck).

I already tried another core i5 2500k that I've had for about 5 months.
I do not have any other type of core i5/i7 processor laying around.

Hi guys,

I got two machines with Z68ma-d2h-b3 Rev 1.0, and I got the EXACTLY SAME PROBLEM. I almost open a new thread, since I havent found a solution. Luckily,I got here.

Have you guys found a solution for this? In actual bios (F9), I still got the same problem. I only didn´t try is to clear cmos.

Well, I agree thats a under-reported problem. Majority of users no use HD3000. I got two machines in office, one for work and another for render, so, I dont need a VGA for a render machine.

Config Machine 1 (workstation):
GA-Z68ma-D2H-B3
Intel 2600k:
4x4gb G-skill Ripjaws,
HD Samsung 1,5tb
VGA Quadro 4000

Config Machine 2 (render):
GA-Z68ma-D2H-B3
Intel 2600k:
4x4gb Kingston,
HD Samsung 1,5tb

The only difference from my problem is 2600k instead 2500k, and I got two machines. I swap everything one to another, when I got quadro 4000, install windows 7 x64 and works fine. When I got onboard HD3000, freezes and reboot during windows logo. No BSOD and no freeze, just reboot.

Im consider two solutions: 1. Install XP x64 instead windows 7 in render machine. or 2. Buy a cheap VGA, but it´s a company machine, not mine, and there is a bureaucracy to buy a gaming vga for a work machine.

Greetings,
Theo - Brazil.

Try using Vga to reinstall drivers I did as I was having the same problem but with a 2600k, only problem you have to keep using vga (as far as i have found might just be my screen).

Anyway good luck
