X58A-UD3R rev. 2.0 - RAM: 6.0GB installed (4.0GB usable)

X58A-UD3R 2.0
Intel i7 930 default settings
Patriot 1600LL 3*2.0GB RAM
AMD ATI Radeon HD 5870 GPU
Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

The problem is that only 4.0GB of the 6.0GB RAM installed are "usable".
And when I check the Resource Monitor, it says 2.0GB are "hardware reserved".

I tried booting the computer with each stick individually. One of them does not boot the computer. I assume it's just a bad stick and I have to replace it? My question is then, why does the computer detect 6.0GB. Or why does it put 2.0GB as hardware reserved.

If I boot the computer with only two sticks (4.0GB), it will show 4GB installes, 2GB usable (but maybe that's beacause it's triple channel RAM and shouldn't be installed not 3 at at a time?)

I'm at a loss for figuring this out. If there's any way to get my computer to use all 6.0GB that'd be great. Otherwise I'll buy a new RAM kit.

Just asking do you have all the memory in the whites slots? They have to be in 1, 3, & 5. I'll check my board and see if I can get it to do the same thing.

One other thing is go into msconfig and click on boot. Click on the Advanced options and make sure you don't have the memory check.

The # of processors & max memory should not have any check marks in the boxes.

But sadly not the source of the prob. All slots seem to be functional as well, since I tried various combinations of them when testing the sticks and the slots.

Have you tried to clear the cmos and just run it at the speed that the board picks up your memory at.

The one causing the problem has been the msconfig setting. That I have read on the internet.

Did you check this one too. Check that Memory Remapping is enabled

Hmmmm I know SOME basics of how to verify things but CMOS speeds, I don't know what that is.
Nor what you mean by the msconfig causing it.

The board will most of the times pickup the memory at 1066 or 1333. I went and look at my board.

I can't find no memory mapping. But I did find in the Power Management there is a setting that you can change.

It is HPET Mode from 32bit to 64bit. But the thing is that mine is set to 32bit. Plus I have 4 OS on that computer from XP, Vista, Win 7 & Win 8.

They are all 64bit and all show 6gb in windows & that is what is installed. If you made any changes in the bios? That is why ask you to clear the cmos.

The memory modules are placed in mode 2 or 3 channel?

Have you tried with other memory, like 1333 ? Go to shop with your computer... why not?

Perhaps in a shop, try another brand or model of RAM as 1600 mhz.

In a BIOS, if you are not in RAID situation, have you tried ''Load optimezed Defautls'' ?

I have had from i7-920 to i7-960 and all of them will run 1600 with no problems at 1600 speed.

He is see all 6gbs at boot but not in windows. For some reason windows is putting the 2gbs in reserve.

What is the content of this 2gb? What resources or files are in reserved memory?

I suggest to update the BIOS to FH.

If your motherboard has another revision, go to the Gigabyte website and go to the right web link.
Because BIOS versions are very different from one revision to another.

After flash a BIOS, with QFlash....
Set Hyperthreading Disabled.

But if you have a RAID situation, make attention.
Note your configuration in BIOS before change.

Because the entire RAID configuration in the BIOS will disappear, will be deleted. He will do it again manually.

If you've never done updating the BIOS in your life, say so. We will guide you. This is not a safe operation.

If you do not want to update the BIOS, at least try to put the parameter to hyperthreading disabled.

EDIT: I'm a retard. Maximum memory was checked. Maybe I left it on during my messing around trying to fix it last time. Then, the initial problem was probably my old RAM kit, and this one works. Thanks for all the help and time everyone, greatly GREATLY appreciated. I was quite at a loss.

I had decided to wait out because I wanted to upgrade my RAM anyways. Now that I have, to a 3x4GB set of G.Skill

I can try the things you recommended but no, I have never changed the BIOS before.
EDIT: Disabling Hyperthreading didn't change anything

I noticed that on the timing page, the numbers listed were 7-7-7-20 while on the RAM's website it says 9-9-9-24 (On the package I got though, it says 7-7-7-21), but I don't know the importance of this.

Also, if I try to update to FH, it tells me it doesn't work with 64-bit (from the link you gave me).
