Help

Motherboard = GA-Z68X-UD4-B3

I had windows 7 ultimate 64bit installed onto the a OCZSSD2-2AGTE60G  60 Gig SSD ( drive c:)as the primary drive, and had a 1 TB hard drive as the secondary drive ( drive x:).

In the course of trying to figure out why the DVD drive was now no longer being seen, I ended up in a situation where I had wiped out or corrupted the Windows 7 installation on the SSD  to the point where I needed to start all over again with a fresh install.

The problem is -> now the SSD is NOT seen by the Windows installation CD.( SSD connected to SATA3_0, the HD connected to SATA3_1)

I have tried disconnecting the Hard Drive, and having ONLY the SSD connected....still NO drive is seen.

I pulled the SSD, and installed into a USB peripheral portable drive enclosure , and itworked and  was seen, and I formatted it ok..

then I removed it from the usb portable enclosure, and installed it back in to the PC, connecting SATA3_0 onto the Gigabyte motherbd.,.,....STILL is is not seen.....

ANy advice appreciated....

Hi hikerit and welcome to the forum,

Have you configured the SATA3_0 and SATA3_1 ports to ACHI?

Also has the SSD been updated with the latest firmware for the Agility 2 SSD ?

http://www.ocztechnology.com/ssd_tools/OCZ_Vertex_2,_Vertex_LE,_Agility_2/

Also...do you have another "good SSD" that you can attach to the SATA3_0 port?

Have you checked the cable and connections?

Could you list your system specification and current BIOS version.

Take care where electricity is concerned.....safety first.

Yes - tried setting the SATA3_0 and SATA3_1 ports to ACHI, and tried with ONLY the SSD installed.

Tried it with the SSD connected to the SATA3_0, and then tried with the SSD connected to the SATA3_1

Both cases, when the Windows CD install gets to the point of asking "Where do you want to install Windows ?" -> there are no drives shown.

the error message says "no drives found"
followed by "click load driver to provide mass storage driver"

I know the SSD is being seen, because it is listed in POST.

I have NOT done the SSD update - will have to explore more on how to do that.

I also know it ( the SSD) had been working  - I had this PC previously setup with the SSD as the primary drive with the Windows 7 OS installed onto it, and then had all of the user programs and data files installed onto the 1 TB Hard Drive.  Was working fine until I tried fixing the missing CD drive issue...

That is the configuration goal I want to get back to: ->

have the Windows OS on the SSD for speed,
and then use the secondary 1 TB Hard Drive for all the user programs and data files.

Well...I couldn't see your BIOS listed.....but a BIOS update isn't required unless there is a problem.

Might be an idea to explore to see if your SSD needs an update.....perhaps go on the OCZ forum and run it past them also.

I have just found this read it through carefully....but as I say it might be worth contacting OCZ to be on the safe side before you decide to do any firmware updating....just in case.

Have you considered using Parted Magic before you do a fresh install of the OS?

Have a read of the Corsair blog....if only for information it may help.
