GA-990FXA-UD3 North Bridge too hot
« on: December 26, 2011, 12:48:57 pm »
Hi,
I just bought my new system, with the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard.
Every thing is working fine, but whem a toched the north bridge  :o. It was VERY hot.
The weird thing is that HWMonitor, AMD Overdrive and AIDA64 says that the motherboard temperature is around 40°C idle.
At full load it goes to around 60°C.

So, does anybody have any idea why is this happenig?

My System Specs:
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 - F5 Bios
AMD FX-8120 - CoolerMaster V6GT
2x4GB Corsair  CMX4GX3M1A1600C9
HD6870
XFX 650W XXX Edition
Corsair Graphite Series 600T White

hi there,

the Northbridge cooler can feel quite hot when you touch it but this is usually a good thing as it means heat is being transferred from the chip properly. The only time to be concerned is if the system is unstable or the Northbridge temps are extremely high.

The Northbridge temperature will be affected by the hardware you are running and what, exactly, you are doing with the PC. Watching video or gaming will stress the Northbridge and therefore increase the temperature quite dramatically.

The best advice is to make sure your PC Case has good air flow to help keep things cool and if you are really worried you can modify things a little by adding a small fan to direct cool air onto the Northbridge if needed.

Thank you for your reply.  :)

i've just noticed that my HT Frequency Link, in the bios, is at 2600mhz in the Auto mode.
Isn't it suposed to be 2200?

No, I think that it is correct as you are using an FX Processor which should run at 5200MHz (2600MHz x2) on the HT Frequency
