GA-EX58-UD3R-SLI No POST after BIOS upgrade from F4 to F9

GA-EX58-UD3R-SLI No POST after BIOS upgrade from F4 to F9
« on: January 22, 2012, 06:44:39 pm »
Users manual says it's a GA-EX58-UD3R but I believe it's a GA-EX58-UD3R-SLI
Intel Core i7 2.67GHz
8GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce GTS 250

I bought this computer from newegg.com and it has been running fine for 2 years.  Recently the HDD died so I replaced it with a 128GB SSD.  As part of rebuilding the OS, I downloaded all the current drivers and BIOS from gigabyte.com.  After upgrading the BIOS successfully via floppy disk from F4 to F9, the PC no longer POSTs or boots up.  It powers, fans spin, but no signal is sent to the display.  There is no HDD light activity as if the OS was booting up.  I reseated the video card but that didn't help.  The PC appears dead due to the BIOS upgrade from version F4 to F9.  This is very unfortunate and untimely for what was supposed to be a routine update.  I am now without a PC.

Any help would be appreciated on how I might be able to recover from this situation.

Thank you,
Jas

Did you use the CMOS clear jumper?

No I haven't. I looked at that option but assume it's only for resetting incompatible values, not reverting the BIOS itself.

I jumpered Clear CMOS and now at power on I see the gigabyte splash screen for a few seconds (previously disabled in BIOS by me) but none of the key commands work to enter BIOS or see POST, the machine does not boot Windows 7, it simply keeps rebooting with the splash screen coming up for a few seconds, then reboots itself, repeat.  I verified the printing in the motherboard shows rev 1.0 and there is a sticker or printing stating it is the SLI version.

The jumper only clears CMOS settings, not BIOS firmware.

If you have a USB keyboard, be sure its plugged into the proper USB port (the one with the most direct route, no hubs, usually next to the PS/2 connector or identified as having power during sleep mode) or try a PS/2 keyboard.

Hi

Firstly you can check the motherboard model for sure by looking on the board itself and see what is written in white paint there. It will also have the revision number which is also important to make sure that you have the correct BIOS for the board.

Next you can kick in the backup BIOS by shutting down the PSU from the wall, then hold down your case power button in and then turn on the power supply button, a few seconds later the board will start, shut off the power supply then.   Then you can turn on the power supply again and power up the board normally and DualBIOS will kick in.
