Hello there, Here's hoping someone can help an old fart, I am not new to building or upgrading my computer. I have upgraded my system with this new board. The thing is that I have is this problem. I had a problem getting it started after the rebuild it would not post, So I used this forum and got it sorted out. My problem is that when I shut down windows, Windows will shut down but the fans will not stop until I shut off the power supply. Then when I hit the power on button it starts but will not post until I short out the CMOS pins, Then it will boot up. Even holding the power button does not shut it down. It is a verion 1.1  board with BIOS version F5. I did all the things mentioned in this forum 1 stick of ram, 1  hard drive, 1 DVD/CD drive, removed battery to CMOS and left overnight. Could my CMOS chip be damaged it doesn't seem to save my BIOS settings at all the clock on my windows screen seems to stop also. I even bought a new battery for the MB. I am running A Phenom II X4 955 BE 3.2 Ghz , 8 Gb Kingston Ram, And  Geforce 9600 GSO 786Mb video ram. Windows 7 64 bit, No OC whatsoever.

Hi Denzil and welcome to Gigabyte Forum!

I am by no means an expert like DM and Absic, but perhaps you might want to consider updating the BIOS from F5 to F6f.  I too have the GA-990FXA-UD3 v. 1.1.  I flashed my BIOS to F6f before I attempted a post and it works well for the most part.

Thank you Soar, But already tried that and it didn't make any difference, But I did notice that the backup BIOS stayed at F5, Would that have made any difference? I still had the problem with front panel controls. Power button would not shut down or reset did not work.

  Problem solved, It ended up being a duff CMOS chip on the MoBo, Got it replaced and everything works fine now.
