Unlocking 4th core on AMD Processor using GA-990XA-UD3
« on: February 03, 2012, 05:49:14 pm »
I can not unlock the 4th core on an AMD Athlon II X3 460 Processor, 3.4MHZ my motherboard is the GA-990XA-UD3 motherboard and it supports unlocking of CPU in the bios.
I selected CPU unlock and save and exit but computers sits in a idle mode doing nothing I just have a blank screen and can hear the power supply working I waited up to 20 minutes with nothing happening so I shut down manually and restart wait for windows 7 64 bit to come up and go to msconfig.exe in boot tab advance options and it only shows 3 cores..

I do not know why it will not unlock 4th core also tried newest bios drivers and previous and nothing same result no unlocking of 4th core..

please help

Why will it not unlock?

Well its could be the processor itself. There is usually a reason the fourth core is locked. Most of the time its for stability
but sometimes its because it doesn't work well at all. If the core is broken then that could be the reason why you are not seeing it.

As long as you got some decent cooling you could try just upping the CPU voltage +5. It might make it work if the fourth core is stable enough.

If you do manage to unlock and get your system up go ahead and run some stress tests to see how stable or unstable it is.

Anyone else have ideas?
