GA-Z68X-UD5-B3 RESOLUTION PROBLEM

Hey all this is my first post on a forum i usually figure stuff out but this one has got me stumped!!!

here are my specs
GA-Z68X-UD5-B3 rev 1
i7 2600k @ stock
mushkin ram 8GB @ 2132MHZ 1.5V
x2 GTX 460's in SLI
850W PSU
Windows 7 x64
Latest BIOS
Sony Bravia 1080P 60HZ HDMI

ok so heres the problem after the computer has been shut down for more than about 30 minutes, when i power on the computer it boots up in a low resolution (black edges) when i get to the log in screen and have to restart the computer for it to turn the resolution back to 1080p. i had this same problem with my last board GA-P67A-UD5-B3.

i would be really greatful if someone could help me with this

Hi and welcome.

It might be worth trying to include a boot delay and see if that helps. Go into the BIOS and look for the correct section where you can insert a few seconds delay.

thanks for the tip i will give it a go.

i think a important thing i should have said is that when the SLI is enabled in the NVIDIA control panel this is when the problem arises when i disable the SLI in the control panel its starts everytime perfectly. yes that is a solution to the problem but it should work with the SLI bridge enabled.

What driver version?  Can you set the default SLI type?

Since you've isolated where the problem lies (SLI borks your display), you may have better luck in the nVidia forums if you don't get anything useful here.

  DMs Advice although brief was sound ...as was Rolo's re check the SLI drive package (latest,full) 

  The SLI information written to disc when shutdown is a bigger file ...... assuming you are using a spinning Drive for OS....they take a while to spin up so the information the BIOS is seeking needs time to read it before the end of post..... putting in a delay will give those few extra seconds to get all of it.....if the system gets to the end of post without all of it....it'll put in the default video settings ....hence the low res

  You might be using fast boot which will give it even less time ...... and if using more then one drive ..... you could stagger the drives and give the OS drive 1st priority.

first of all i wanna say thank u all for the comments im sorry i didnt state in my specs that im using a intel 2nd gen 160GB SSD.

i spent abit of time yesterday playing around with the BIOS and changed a setting for the INIT DISPLAY FIRST from the default PCIE x16 to PCI and havnt had a problem since, i've tested it numerous times over different periods of time. tonight im gonna turn the setting back to PCIE x16 and if the problem happens again i will know that changing it to PCI is the solution. I'll be back to let u guys know the outcome.

I don't really see why that should make a difference but then again we are talking computers here so it is possible. Anyway I would be interested in the outcome.

well after about 10 shut downs and boots over different time frames i have concluded that the fix for my problem was changing that setting in the BIOS from PCIE x16 to PCI   it now boots everytime in 1080p whilst in SLI 

NOTE: when i tested the cards without the SLI bridged this whole solution worked in reverse.

Again thanks for all ur help guys i have to admit i thought i'd be dealing with a pack of cocky nerds on here but u guys were great. Cya's again.

That is a weird one but it happens.  Thanks for posting the workaround; that's one for the mental KB.
