EP43-DS3 F10b disc data corruption

I recently installed a Samsug BluRay drive in my pc and I now get lots of disc errors and on a check disc lots of corrupted files. Seems to go away when I remove the bluray drive but my OS is corrupted so difficult to be sure.  Also gets worse when the bueray drive is used.

I have tried the optical drive in another pc and no issues.

Windows 7 64 bit
8Mb 800Mhz RAM
Q9505 processor
2 SATA drives installed (not running RAID)
1 BluRay drive
Nvidea 8800Gt graphics card

You should have your OS drive connected to the first Intel port SATAII_0 (First Yellow against PCB), and your CD/DVD and Blueray drive on the last Intel ports SATAII_4 and 5.

If that's not how you have the drives connected you should move them around now.   And be sure you have the latest Intel INF chipset drivers installed, you can get them here (you want the exe not zip)

And of course, you probably should do a clear install too so you can tell if issues persists or not, because as you mentioned it may be hard to tell on an already corrupted OS.

Compter now  hangs when i put a DVD into the drive.  when I eject the disc it comes back.

Also why does the SATA port matter?

Hi

I would agree with Lsdmeasap regarding the setup of boot drive on the first SATA_0 port. It is always advisable and usually the fastest available too.

I would do an extended clear of the CMOS in case it is old data that is causing the problem.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.
 
Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.
 
You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

If you have any doubts as to wherther the OS is corrupt it would mbe best to wipe it clean and do a fresh install. It would also help to make it faster and get rid of any old files etc that are hanging around.

A hanging CD/DVD drive is often indicative of a failing drive or faulty media, test with another CD/DVD drive if you can, or other disks.

SATA port just matters, trust me!

Thanks for feedbank.  I moved the sata ports arround and this did not help.  Also swaped dvd drives and no help.
What did work was rerouting the SATA cable way from my graphics card!  It had been resting over it.  Test for several hours now.  No data corruption.

Hmm, nice to see you found a solution!   Sounds like you may be using cheaper cables, or they are not insulated correctly.

That or you have been placing them WAY to close to the hot graphics card   Nice to hear you solved this though!
