ga-x58a-ud3r bios update now memory issues

hi im running a machine of

x58a-ud3r rev 2
i7 930
corsair xms3 6 gb 1600
nvidia evga 260

i could never get my memory to run at its full speed with this board anything over 1066 would bsod or fail post. this was on the bios it came with so i updated it last night to FH bios and now it wont boot windows freezes at windows start up. it was running fine before this just not at full memory speed.

tried FG1 bios still the same. ran memtest and it gives hundreds of errors within seconds of starting the tests so i tried my ram in another machine ran memtest for a few hours and no errors all is well there

tried to downgrade bios to FF via bootable flashdrive but i get the error bad bios image. im getting ready to put my boot through this pos board

can anyone help with trying to downgrade my bios so i can get a running machine again

Hi Iain and welcome.

I think that you need to do some serious testing first to determine exactly where the problem lies. I would suggest forgetting about running Memtest or any other program on a different motherboard as they are all different. Try the memory first. This takes a while but will give you a good point from which to start. Please follow these instructions exactly.


I would suggest that you download and run the latest version of  Memtest86+ to check your RAM first.

Memtest86+        http://www.memtest.org/

Insert one stick of memory in slot 1 and run Memtest on it for at least 10 complete loops/cycles and if there are no errors then swap it over with the next one and continue untill you have checked all  modules.
 
If you have any errors the module is faulty.

If you have any faulty modules you will have to return the whole kit as they are matched.

Post back when you have done that with the results.

As soon as I start a test on my board it throws up errors tried it with the same model of memory from a differant machine which is good still the same do it's not memory.

Can't find out how to get it to flash back to the older bios just keep getting incorrect file size.

Sometimes the file size has been changed and if that is the case the only way to alter it is to use FLASHSPI or  @BIOS. QFlash wont work on BIOS files of different sizes.

Flashspi didn't work either, got the an error !!bad bios image!! Or along those lines.

Think the board might be bricked?

Well of course it could be a possibility but try using @BIOS even though we usually advise against it's use. For some occasions it is the only tool. If that doesn't work I think you are going to have to RMA the board and let Gigabyte have a look at it.

Can't get into windows to use @bios. Rma is no go board out of warranty thinks its time to order a new board

In FlashSPI use the /X or /Z switch, must be capital letter.   Be sure you are using the latest FlashSPI that came with the newest BIOS you have

So try

A> FlashSPI BIOSfileName.Fxx /X

or

A> FlashSPI BIOSfileName.Fxx /Z

If that fails try /F switch instead (Above are both force too, but one will flash BIOS BIOSes at once)  If you do use the /F switch BE SURE you have the correct version of BIOS for your version of motherboard (IE Rev. 1.0 BIOS for Rev. 1.0 board, 2.0 BIOS for 2.0 board, ect.)

It does sound like maybe this memory is bad to begin with, or incompatible with the board, since you could never get it booting at the correct speeds.   Can you test with other memory to rule this out?  DDR3 is dirt cheap these days, so have a look around for a single 2Gb or 4GB module for testing, you can probably find a 2Gb for under $20 and a 4GB for around $20-25
