FX processor and GA-970A-D3
« on: February 23, 2012, 12:26:07 am »
I was wondering if the GA-970A-D3 mobo would work with the FX without a bios update (it's an FX 4100), or would i be wasting my money getting the FX only to find out that i need a Phenom II or Athlon II to update the bios. So has gigabyte updated the bios on these boards at this point in time?  ???

Depends on how old the stock is at the place you purchase it from.when gigabyte manufactures a motherboard they always install the latest bios aviable for it. So like i said depends on where you get it from, and how old there stock is.

If you haven't already purchased the motherboard I would suggest asking the retailer to flash the BIOS for you before sending it. If not you can always get a  local shop to flash the BIOS  saving you from the cost of purchasing a supported chip just for this purpose.

If I'm on Amazon.com, how can I tell how old the stock is, and am i able to request a bios flash from them?

I've also been seeing a lot of mixed reviews for the FX, so should I just go with a Phenom II?

With the mixed reviews for the FX and lots of answers saying that the Phenom II X4 outperforms the FX 4100, I'm going with the Phenom II. Thread locked.
