GA-990XA-UD3 Motherboard - Dead
« on: March 14, 2012, 06:12:23 pm »
I have just installed a GA-990XA-UD3 MB with AMD FX 8150 3600Ghz CPU and 2 No Kingston KHX1600C9D3K2/8GH DDR3. with only a graphics card fitted and nothing else only the CPU fan is active.

Any one any ideas, I have no other bit to swap and try?

Hi

The first thing I would suggest is to make sure that your present BIOS is updated enough to support your processor.
Gigabyte X58A-UD7
i7 920
Dominators 1600 x6 12GB
6970 2GB
HX850
256GB SSD, Sam 1TB, WDB320GB
Blu-Ray
HAF 932

Gigabyte Z68X-UD5-B3
i7 3770K
Vengeance 1600 16GB
6950 2GB
HCP1200W
Revo Drive x2, 1.5TB WDB RAID0
16x DLRW

I bet it is the BIOS; and that you have to buy a Semperon or similar processor to flash it. That is what happened to me and it cost me £30 to have every bit checked out because the supplier applies fines for incorrectly RMA'd stuff.

So if you haven't got a voltage checker, or another computer to test the graphics card on, no beeps = no processor or no power or short circuit, and in this case I would check out the BIOS since it could be the processor.

When you get it done if that is what is wrong, make sure the backup is synchronised; alt +f12 at post I think, was told that here. Flashing BIOS is risky but if you don't you might end up with nothing.

You need to be running F4 minimum BIOS for support for that processor. See here:

Two simple things you might do first, before going further...
Try a POST with board outside the case resting on a NON CONDUCTIVE SURFACE.
Test and/or replace battery on the motherboard.

Dark Mantis is correct about the BIOS version for your CPU, alot of these boards were shipped with
the older versions and therefore do not support the FX cpu out of the box.

If you can get something like this, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103944
it's only $30 US and on the supported cpu list.
FX 6100/3.3GHz, GA-970a-UD3/F5g, 8GB/1600MHz, Crucial C300 SSD-7pro64, 700w SilentPro, EVGA-GTX470/1900X1080 on Samsung 42" LED, Water cooled ATCS-840

Thanks to all replies, I have tried/tested what I can and all but the CPU..I am not sure about what I am doing with  the BIOS thing!   I have contacted Gigabyte still waiting for a reply, hopefully they will reply before I send it back to Amazon.

Ta for the advice.
