Memtest86 explanation
« on: March 20, 2012, 08:53:31 pm »
Is there anyone relative with Memtest?
I burned the iso of v4.20 and booted from dvd. After... 17 hours the picture is this.
Is there any problem with my ram?

agros,

MemTest is showing errors and normally I would just recommend
returning them to the place of purchase for a replacement, BUT...

I notice your signature has fanless listed next to your cpu.
By what method are you cooling this???

During the 17 hours of testing is there any possibility your
components are getting too hot? This condition could cause
perfectly good ram to show errors.

I'm just curious about the fanless thing :o

normally you only do 7 passes with memtest some do 10 looks like you went thru it all and are on test 6 pass 3 which is longer than i have ever run it for.
Are you having a problem like blue screens or crashes?

Hellooo,
Yes my system is full fanless exept a noiseless slipstream 120'' fan 500rpm, which I have at the exhaust case position. Cpu and vga are green so the monster heatsinks are enough(up to 50oC or more).
Query is--> Does this memtest application increase the heat during its function? These days are the hottest from the beggining of the winter(up to 22oC).
Which temp can make perfectly good ram to show errors, as you said?

Any red indication from memtest means problem? Small or serious? Do u know what is this code 6 about?

How many hours should users run this application? If I had run it 2 hours I would had seen no red indications.

Another query is if o/c can affect the results. I had the factory default settings exept the 2T, which I had made it 1T. Do u suggest me re-run memtest with 2T? And put a fan during the task?

I bought this ram (4x2GB Corsair DDR3) one year ago, and no problem so far.
Lately I met some strange/sudden restarts  for no obvious reason. I mostly think its drivers issue. Then I heard about this memtest 4.20 and I gave it a try.

Go into performance monitor and see what is causing the crashes. I used avg for years full edition and have a new one here and in dec i started getting weird crashes to desktop or just restarts performance monitor showed that it was avg causing it so i uninstalled it and tried microsoft security just to see and my crashes are gone.

Yes, It's job is to stress your RAM to reveal weakness in the sticks quality and settings.

consult manufacturer's specs regarding operating temperatures for your RAM.

red means error, both yours showed up during test #6. The first error came on pass #3, the second on pass #4.

Overclocking produces more heat yes, run the test again at 2T, if it makes 7 passes with no errors, I'd call it good for your system.

I have several days to get those restarts but I d like to know about this performance monitor, where is it?
Can this perf. monitor identify more issues, for examble I suddenly got a higher ping(160) then I unistalled ZA and ping went back to 80.

Ok I ll re-run the test with fan and 2T. I dont know if 2T is o/c, because bios gives auto 2T. You know, sometimes bios give auto settings, worse than the factory defaults, so user has to change it manually.

7 passes in which number of test? How many passes exist per test? And how many are the tests? :)

Try reading this agros, it has some really good info about the program and the reasons for using it.

Well, there are some news.

I re-run the test with 2 added fans and 2T. I wake up after 6.5 hours and this time says me that I have no errors and I can exit...(click the link for image)

So, the first time after 17 hours I had 2 errors written and still time to go, now the time was much shorter and no errors.
