GB GA-EX58-UD3R stuck in power loop, any suggestions?

Hi Folks,

I've had this system built for about two years now, and hardware-wise it has been flawless. It's used in the sound booth at a church to record audio and duplicate CDs, and as such is only run a few hours a week.

Last week it refused to boot, it just started this power cycling bit. I've just uploaded a short (cruddy) vid to YouTube to demonstrate what is going on.

I've pulled video card and memory and it has had no influence. I didn't want to unbuckle the CPU just yet in case this is a clear case of something else.

   Welcome jcims

     Most probably PSU but try reseting the systems BIOS.....to Optimized defaults ....reboot and reconfigure as needed......

  Next update to the latest BIOS and do the same as above..........

 if you still cant get past the loop.......you will have to start somewhere and that would likely be PSU......But post back the results after these attempts

I would agree that the obvious cause is the PSU but it is a good make and model and just a little on the low side. I think that foirst you should try doing an extended CMOS clear and see if that helps at all.

The next thing to try is to clear the CMOS. Please follow these instructions exactly.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour (longer if you have the time) before replacing it.
 
Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.
 
You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Thanks for the replies.  Just picked up a (quite lovely) Corsair 600 watt PSU and the same thing happens.  I will try the extended CMOS clear option next to see if I can at least make it to POST.

No joy.  Tried the CMOS clear, also shorted the CLR_CMOS jumper.  No change in behavior.

I think I need an RMA.

Hi Folks,

Me again.  This thing was just returned from RMA, tested OK at Gigabyte but is doing the same thing at this end.   I called CA and they put me in touch with a very patient support rep that walked through some diagnostics...basically stripping the system down to PSU, CPU and one ram stick.  Still does the same thing.

At this point, given that both ram modules exhibit the same behavior and the new PSU didn't fix it, i'm assuming it has to be CPU.  How in the world am i going to test that without buying an un-returnable CPU?

in the bios look for ErP or EuP is it Disabled? if not do so as that can cause boot loop with certain Psu's. had the same issue with an enermax psu.

RMA the CPU, no need to waste more time troubleshooting, if you are sure it's not your memory.

Unfortunately the bios isn't available, it's only under power for ~1-2 seconds.

RMA the CPU, no need to waste more time troubleshooting, if you are sure it's not your memory.

You have tried and extended clear CMOS right?  If not, try that now.  Unplugg or switch off your PSU, then press and hold the case power on button for one minute, then remove the CMOS battery and put a jumper or short on the clear CMOS pins.  Then let it sit like that for 8+ hours, then remove the short, put the battery back, and connect or turn on the PSU and try it aain.

Also, test with different memory if you can, must be the the white slots only if using 3 sticks or less.
