EP45-UD3L endless reboot

EP45-UD3L endless reboot
« on: April 18, 2012, 11:14:30 am »
Hey,
I usually leave my PC on all the time but recently I've just even turning it off when I go to work sometimes... I tried to turn it back on today and found that the PC would start and display the POST screen but only get to the memory check and sit on that for about 5-10 seconds and reboot again. My PC has:

Gigabyte EP45-UD3L with bios F4
2gb (2x1gb) corsair DDR2 ram dual channel kit
Intel dual core CPU (nothing flash)
PCI express GFX silent (not sure exact model but can find out if needed)
Corsair Tx650PSU
2x sata HDD
2x pioneer DVD burners
1x memory card reader
Windows XP SP3

I don't have any other cards or anything at all.  It just basically gets used for Internet. I thought at first may be the ram.  So I tried all different combos with using the 2nd and 4th ram slots then with 1 stick, then the other.  Then I tried unplugging all HDD and all DVD drives but same thing. Tried taking out CMOS battery for 15 min to clear that and same thing... Now I get gigabyte splash screen at POSTinstead of NORMAL POST screen so I can't see what's happening but it's still restarting very quickly.

If you need any more info on anything please ask... If you have any idea what might be causing this that will help I would appreciate it.  I am suspecting a faulty motherboard...

Thanks

Hi and welcome.

The first thing we will do is to clear the CMOS and hopefully that will stop all this boot problem and then we can look at any other issues nthat you have afterwards.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for a couple of hours before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Hi,
Thank you! I have pulled the battery back out again and will leave it for minimum 2 hours this time. I left it out for 15 mins last time and still couldn't do anything.  Would not allow me to even get into BIOS or anything at all.  No keyboard function was operational.  Will post back once the time has elapsed.

Sometiomes it does require a long time to completely clear the CMOS and so if you still have no luck I would advise following the same procedure but to leave the battery out overnight with the power disconnected.

Had some spare ram laying around so I just tried that but no luck again... Got a feeling this is going to be the motherboard gone...?
