HD6870 BSOD after loading Cat 12.3
« on: April 15, 2012, 01:18:43 am »
Hey all, I just built my new rig (specs in sig) and it runs great until I load Cat12.3. When I load 12.3 I get a BSOD and general instability but no error messages. Everything SHOULD be compatible, and the only time I have a problem is when I update. Any Ideas? Thanks in advance, this is my first AMD/ATi card, so I am not familiar with the catalyst interface. I have done no o/c'ing to any part of the system and bios is set to default. Have a good night =)

Hi and welcome.

You said that you get BSODs but no error messages, well there must be error messages incorporated into the BSOD. They will take the format of :

STOP 0x00000124  plus a load more numbers normally.

The number code tells us what is the problem. So if you could post the relevant details we will try and help.

Just to clarify, do you want the error code from the actual BSOD or the event logs? I just pulled them up for the first time and it has a LOT of errors. Mostly relating to
"The Desktop Window Manager is experiencing heavy resource contention.
Reason   :   Graphics subsystem resources are over-utilized.
Diagnosis   :   A sharp degradation in Desktop Window Manager responsiveness was observed."

P.S.- My board is a z68, do I need to disable the onboard video if I am using a discrete graphics card? And if so, how do I do so?
