Is  970A-UD3+ FX4100+Win XP combination free of issues/BSOD-s related to Bulldozer architecture?!

I am using latest official BIOS with the board.

I want to change my X3 720 BE CPU for a FX 4100 to get more memory bandwidth .

The problem is that i want to use it with XP too as this 970-UD3 is a dual boot system.

So my questiion is if by using latest BIOS for the board I will be BSOD free under***********

LE: LOL ,some forum filter doesn t alow me to name the operating system :) .

I think with XP it wont matter but myself i wouldnt do it as that windows xp wont matter you are bottlenecking anything you do with that old system. It will work but as to seeing a difference than what you have now i doubt it.  Depends on the applications you are using i guess.  As for bsod shouldnt happen at all. I know plenty of ppl running xp off a AM3+ chip.

Use windows 7 or ty the newest windows 8 beta for free

Thanks for the feedback.

So you are saying that i should not have issues with Bulldozer specific BSOD-s under XP, in this combination, as the newer BIOS fixed the problems ?!

The rig where i have the 970-UD3 is a dual boot one , XP and W7 .
XP is kept for older programs and  games  ,plus that a member of my family prefers XP over Win7  ,easier to use :)

I use some really old programs as long as you know how to right click icon and use compatiable mode they will work on 7. I have a friend took me 18 months then i finally installed 7 for him and let him try it and got his programs to work and if you talk to him now he wont ever go back.

The purpose of dual boot is to use one till you get  the other to work with all you need it to. I use dual boot when a new operating system comes out till probably 3 months later if it takes that long. You shouldnt have any problem with xp but you wont take full advantage of that processor till windows 8 comes out or a better patch for windows 7. It is a AM3+ sockett so you should be fine.

I have heard of trouble with the FM1 sockett and xp but not so much AM3+.

autotech , thank you for the feedback.

I know about the compatibility mode ,but ,for example , i prefer older EAX based games to sound properly and this can be achieved only under XP.

Today i should receive my FX 4100 and see for myself ,if it s good or bad ,stopped believing in reviews for some time already :)
I had to try it myself.:)

I have it now up and running :)

It s running with factory cooler at 25-41 Celsius per core.
With APM ,C6 and CnQ off is always at 3,6Ghz.

Under XP Steam seems to be running properly.

Did some tests by myself with APM ,C6 and CnQ on Auto and got the following:

Windows 7 32 bit  had a CPU WEi of 6,8 with P2 X3 720BE and now ,with the  FX 4100 , a score of 7,2 .

Dirt 3 scores under XP, at 1920X1080 resolution and 2AA (Direct X9) with maximum details available under XP for ATI 4850:

First internal benchmark run:

->Phenom 2 X3 720 BE :  Average 46,41 FPS /Minimum 21,34 FPS
->AMD FX 4100:              Average 50,11 FPS /Minimum 31,52 FPS

Second internal benchmark run:

->Phenom 2 X3 720 BE :  Average 46,31 FPS /Minimum 27,08 FPS
->AMD FX 4100:              Average 50,58 FPS /Minimum 40,90 FPS

CS:S internal  stress test default settings at 1366 X 768:

First run:

->Phenom 2 X3 720 BE :  Average 280,43 FPS
->AMD FX 4100:              Average 283,01 FPS

Second run:
->Phenom 2 X3 720 BE :  Average 281,19 FPS
->AMD FX 4100:              Average  284,86 FPS

Company of Heroes Gold Edition ,internal performance test at default game settings 1366 X 768 resolution:

 First run:
->Phenom 2 X3 720 BE :  Average 59,5 FPS /Max 61,4 FPS /Min 9,9 FPS
->AMD FX 4100:              Average  59,5 FPS /Max 63,4 FPS /Min 5,8 FPS

Second run:
->Phenom 2 X3 720 BE :  Average 59,5 FPS /Max 62,6 FPS /Min 8,9 FPS
->AMD FX 4100:              Average  59,6 FPS /Max 61,8 FPS /Min 19,9 FPS

With higher resolutions 1920 X 1080 at max detail COH is enjoyable Average 58,9 /Max 63,5 FPS /Min 35,01 FPS

I am satisfied with this new CPU ,it s cooler,  i can finally use the 1333 Mhz memory at it s rated speed and it seems to be faster than P2 X3 720 BE  :)

Having in mind the reviews on the internet i expected this CPU to be quite bad ,but it s not the case.
