Hi Maurice and welcome.

It is sometimes just that even though the BIOS does recognise the drive it doesn't display it because it is a SATA not IDE drive. Does it show up in Windows in the Administrative Tools/Computer Management/ etc etc ?

Also don't rely on the bundled CD as they are always out of date when you get it. Use the drivers off the websaite instead as they will be the most up to date available.

There are issues with VIA based SATA I controllers and newer HDD-s that are SATA 2 or 3 compliant.
All you can do is to (try to ) use SATA I standard on the HDD itself. Some HDD -s have jumpers for this purpose or firmware tricks.
It s a VIA controller limitation ,nothing you can do about it ,except buying a new motherboard and CPU.

What is the HDD you are trying to use?!

For Hitachi i think you need to use a firmware switch ,to achieve the Sata 1 and even then it may not work.

Unfortunately the SATA controller is outdated for your new HDD.

You could search for older HDD-s known to work or you could buy a SATA controller PCI board ,but that poses the risk as well to not work with that KT 600 board and even if it works to perform very slow 50 megs/s max ,PCI bus limited.

This is the link for Hitachi utility : http://www.hitachigst.com/support/downloads/

What you need is the "Feature Tool"utility and this one has a warning

"Warning! Switching your drive to support 3.0Gb/s, or enabling spread spectrum clocking and then using it, may render your drive unusable in a system that cannot support these functions. If in doubt, please contact your system manufacturer"
