Dying heasink fan.

Dying heasink fan.
« on: July 05, 2012, 10:07:49 pm »
Can anyone give me a suggestion for a replacement fan or heat-sink?

One of the motherboards at my work has a dying heat-sink fan, like the one in the following link. However as policy the company will not order from Ebay or any company that does not use "purchase orders".

TIA

Hi and welcome.

Normally it is the bigger companies that put that sort of stipulation on buying parts etc so I would just say to wait until the board goes belly up and then use a purchase order to buy a replacement. Not usually a problem with that sort of company.

The fans can usually be sourced from one of the large online retailers though. You might have to get a pattern unit and then swap the casing over as the exact unit might not be easy to source.

The place I work for is the same. In that sort of large company you would normally have some sort a relationship with a computer repairs company and that company would accept a purchase order. Yes, your company ends up paying $50 or $80 instead of just $12 for the fan and shipping, but it keeps the accountants happy.

Yes it would seem to be the same in most large companies. It is the very people who should know better and be keeping an eye on budgetry spending that cause this issue in the first place.

So last night my NB Fan (EVGA X58 SLI) starting making a loud whining/grinding noise. In EVGA E-leet the RPM dropped to 3300 from 4800, randomly it will get back up to full speed. I would say about 70% of the time its making the loud noise and 30% of the time it returns to full speed and becomes quiet.

This is a Gigabyte forum not EVGA but the problem sounds like a fan bearing going wrong. I would suggest replacing the fan as soon as possible.
