vcore freeze/lock on GB GA880GA-UD3H

My AMD Phenom II X6 is regularly overclocked to 4000 Mhz without any problems.

For some reason I'm not able to reset the vcore back to it's default value and can't overclock at all.

The default value of the vcore is now 1.475, as oppsed to 1.3 which is the actual default value, and the one that always is the starting point for a succesful overclocking procedure.

Trying to set the clock to 1.55, which is the optimal value for running at 4000 Mhz will make the computer go BSOD or reboot.

Resetting the bios does not revert vcore to 1.3. It has locked on 1.475 as default value.

I also flashed the bios with F6, however this past version did not change anything. Vcore still reads 1.475.

I actually had this problem before, and fixed it. This time however - I have no clue.

Initially, resetting bios through the GUI or through the hardware, did nothing to solve the problem. Vcore remained at 1.475. Updating the bios with previos v F6 did neither have any effect. However, after reinstalling bios v F7 and arbitrarily rebooting the system, the vcore automatically readjusted to 1.3. Everything is OK in the world now...

Just as an aside - have you tried PhenomMSRTweaker? I have a setup similar to yours and have found using PMT that most of the time I can run my overclocked CPU at 4X and even turn OFF the CPU fan (makes things way, way quieter).

You want me to turn off the fan for a cpu that quite often is running at an average temperature of 60 ° C with the fans at full throttle?
I don't think so, but I will check out that tool. Thank you.

Actually what I was suggesting was that an overclocked Phenom (at 20X = 4.0 Ghz) does not have to ALWAYS run at its highest setting. For a lot of things it can run at a lower multiplier (e. g. 4X = 800 MHz). At a under-clocked 4X, my CPU runs 25-28C and I can turn off the CPU fan. Obviously at 20X (4.0 Ghz) the fan MUST be on (my CPU runs in the hit 30's - under Primg95 the low 40's).

BTW -  a CPU at 60C is exceeding its thermal limits (assuming you are talking about the core temperature and not the Gigabyte sensor).

I apologise for the late reply. Yes, when rendering 3D imagery, I usually run my rig at 20 x 4.0 Ghz. Simply because I can save a lot of time compared to running at any lower setting. I always use Core Temp with this configuration, and the computer is able to run stable - even with the CPU@62°C.
So far I haven't had any issues besides the one initially described in this post.

According to AMD 62 degrees C is the UPPER limit (at least for the 1090T and 1100T X6's - others do go up a bit further). You might think about a better CPU cooling system.
