X79-UD3 Artifacts after OS install

X79-UD3 Artifacts after OS install
« on: April 26, 2012, 11:49:02 pm »
Hi. I recently upgraded to x79 with the following specs:

CPU: i7-3820
Mobo: X79-UD3
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LP 4x4GB
VC: Gigabyte 560 Ti OC
PSU: Silverstone Strider Gold Evo 850w
SSD: Crucial M4

Right after installation of Win 7, I get full-screen artifacts when getting into the desktop. I've tried swapping out Video Cards, PSU, and reinstalled the OS 4-5 times. Did 3 passes of memtest+ on the RAM just to be thorough, and it passed with no errors. I'm all out of ideas and would appreciate any help.

I've attached a pic of the screen.

Hi and welcome.

Firstly I just wanted to say that 3 passes of Memtest86+ isn't being thorough! About 10 loops on each module singly is considered  a complete test. Anyway apart from that as already mentioned the monitor is a constant in all your tests. It would be worth try a different one and a new cable just to eliminate those items.

It might be worth flashing your BIOS to the laterst version too. Use QFlash though not @BIOS to do the job and don't forget to disable the Keep DMI Settings box on the homepage.

Also check your resolution in Windows as from what you said it is working until then. You may need to go into safe mode to do this.

Had same problem, with this board it happened when sata controller was set to IDE mode, with AHCI problem goes away. Have same problem with intel X79 board, did not yet find a solution.

Hello all..

I've the exact same problem!

First W7 install, everything was fine until the, for example, 8th reboot..
Second W7 install, fine until 5 reboot..
Third W7 install,  fine untill 10th reboot..
Fourth W7 install, fine until the 1st reboot after the 1st installation part..

After 10 W7 installations,  two of them with SP1 (because the artifacts didn't appeared and luckily i was able to install SP1), i gave up and decided to install W8, and.. WOW!! NO ARTIFACTS!!!

I've W8 installed now, and after 3 days, no artifacts!!

I've tried:

* Different nVidia drivers
* Different Intel Chipset drivers
* Different SATA ports, including the Marvell ones
* Install with IDE and AHCI
* Switch IDE/AHCI after W7 install
* Different Bios: F8, F11 and F12c
* EFI and Legacy
* Different DVI ports
* Different PCIE slots
* Different GPUs
* One GPU, and Two in SLI mode

My system:

- Gigabyte G1.Assassin II, that comes with F8 bios out of the box
- Intel Core i7 3820
- 4x2GB Patriot Viper Xtreme at different speeds
- 2x MSI N460GTX Cyclone OC 768MB in SLI
- Samsung P2370 (if someones need to know)
- 1x WD 500GB Caviar Blue i think.

Ok, seems that i found a solution..

After a new Win7 installation (because W8 is a pain in the ***), i saw again the Artifacts!
So, i rebooted the PC and inside the bios setup, in the Peripheral section, disabled "XHCI Hand-Off" and "EHCI Hand-Off" , and woha! No more artifacts!!! :)

If someone with this problem sees this, please, tell me if it works!!
