X48-DS4 >3TB HD compatibility

Hello everyone!

I own this board, and in the past bought 2TB x 2 and set them up in RAID 0. they work great.

But, I bought 2TB because I know of the issues 3TB or bigger hard drives may cause in a non-EFI/hybrid bios boards.

Has anyone used/using 3TB or bigger internal hard drives with this board? how and does it work well for you or not?

I read that it's only a matter of time before 6TB hard drives will be out as the companies are moving towards helium based Hard drives which will allow them to fit more platters and get better capacities.

Thanks!

Hi

Generally the maximum size that you can run without UEFI and GPT is 2.2TB. So I don't think you stand much chance as there isn't a EFI BIOS available as far as I know.

Hi!

Thanks for the response. I know that there is no EFI/Hybrid bios right now. However, I did read somewhere that the correct size is recognized by the bios, but in the OS you can only use the full capacity as a data partition rather than a system partition.

Is that correct?

thanks
