USB headers/problem

USB headers/problem
« on: September 24, 2012, 10:20:21 pm »
Hi Guys
forgive me if I am asking something that has been asked a million time before -
I have just moved all the internals of my PC into a new case (Antec 300)
For the first time I have had a case with two USB outlet sockets. Therefore I was able to connect this to the USB1 header on my GA-H61M-S2PV motherboard. Inserting a memory stick does not promote any activity, or additional directory number 'in my computer'.

If I go to device manager and expand the usb tree - no errors are listed. I'm sure there is a easy answer to this?? - what have I forgotten to do/ need to do?
OS is WinXP Pro / SP3 fully updated.
Thanks in advance for your help

Hi

I suppose the first thing to check is what revision your motherboard is ?

Next  that you have connected the USB ports (which I take it are the front ones) to the correct header on the motherboard and made sure that they are the right way around. Which header are you using ?

In Device Manager is there any exclamation mark against any device especially USB ?

How embarrassing :-[ :-[ :-[
Took a peak at the connection to the USB header. Viewed from underneath all was well, HOWEVER, when viewed from above, it was clear I had plugged in the cable too low showing the top row of pins.
Moral of this is - always assemble in daylight to avoid silly errors like this :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

Hey, we have all done this sort of embarrassing thing. The more experience you have the worse it seems!

I just goes to show though that it is always worth checking all the connections and other simple things first.
