GA-78MLT-S2P Purchase help.
« on: October 13, 2012, 11:53:38 am »
So im buying a whole new gaming system and i decided to go for the FX6200 series by amd. now because i bought a bundle which included that cpu,ram and motherboard. im having a slight dilema.

the motherboard it came with is the ga-78mlt-s2p and on the main gigabyte page it says i will need to update my bios for the am3+ cpu to read.

So my question is, does this motherboard ship with the needed bios or am i screwed?

i mean im sure the company i bought the bundle from isnt stupid enough to have that bundle in the first place without checking everything work together right?

for the bundle its this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VIBOX-160-FAST-MOTHERBOARD-BUNDLE-AMD-FX6200-3-8GHZ-6XCORE-8GB-DDR3-MOTHERBOARD-/200800195305?pt=UK_Motherboards_CPUs&hash=item2ec09fd2e9#ht_2644wt_1186

Hi and welcome.

I can't say for sure whether the installed BIOS will be enough to support the CPU the this Ebay firm have supplied with it. The best thing would be to approach them with the question as they are the only ones who can answer for sure. If you can tell me what BIOS version is intalled I can tell you if it is ok.

I sent a email to them asking them if they updated the bios to 3.0 before sending me the bundle. and i clearly stated that there stupid if they didnt and that i would send it back to them so they can update it.

the other option is, would the cpu work in crap mode just to get online on my new computer just to download the bios and update?

Get a AMD 9xx chipset based board if you want long term BIOS support.
AMD 78x chipset got on the market more than 3 years ago.
Over & Out !

AMD FX (APU-s included) users should install - KB2645594 & KB2646060 under Windows 7

If the motherboard's BIOS isn't new enough to support the processor then it probably won't work at all. Not even in "crap" mode.

I don't think that you should be rude to Vezina though as he was only offering good advice and trying to help you.

The other option is to take it to a local shop. Usually they will run the update for you for a few quid.

Yeah was thinking that too :P. got one down the road. but i hope just in general knowing how big Zibox is, that they would include a updated bios.

Also i read abit more into it and it seems that gigabyte release revisions of there motherboards.

so it might just be the fact that the warning of updating on the motherboard website page is really old and hasnt been removed from the page yet. and it does now support the am3+ as standard.
