Title: BIOS Update now Windows 7 not activated
Post by: sacentre on June 06, 2017, 01:34:56 pm
My Windows 7 Home Premium is telling me that it is not activated because my product code is invalid.

I believe this is because I (stupidly) updated the BIOS.  Can anyone tell me if re-installing the previous BIOS version (if this is possible) will fix this?  I've made no hardware changes to the PC other than this. The product code on this machine has only been used once when the PC was built last November.

Motherboard GA-Z170X Gaming 7 (rev 1.0)
Current BIOS F21 3/6/2017

Thanks in advance

Trevor

This is not typical, but can occur after a BIOS update when one or more hardware identifiers changes.  Typically 3 or more changes triggers the reactivation request.  In any event, you can reactivate (legitimately) using your existing key.  Just go through the activation process using the internet.

If that fails, call and the automated activation system will guide you through the process.  I suggest a pen and paper for this method.  If you have Office installed, it might need to be reactivated as well.

Many thanks for the reply. Telephone activation was a complete failure and kept telling me my product had been activated too many times which was incorrect. However, I managed to get it re-activated quickly via live telephone support so all's well again. I'm always a bit nervous with Win activation having been through many problems with Win 10 activation initially.
Thanks again.
