Title: GA-8SIML
Post by: xit909 on January 26, 2011, 05:48:12 pm
Hi, I recently bought some parts to upgrade a Packard Bell Imedia PC, I went to ebay and bought this CPU but its only showing up as a 1.59Ghz http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360336385615&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:GB:1123 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360336385615&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:GB:1123)

I also bought this RAM http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320629638165&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:GB:1123 but it doesnt get recognised, I get 3 beeps on post which indicates a Base 64k failure.

Should I update the Bios or have I totally bought the wrong items.

Cheers

P.S If the links dont work I shall post full descriptions, thanks

The memory you bought probably wont be compatible with this board and CPU as it is listed as ECC Registered.

What a bummer, I may get a refund with a bit of luck.

Oh well freecycle it is then,   :'(

Thanks for your help

Oh I forgot to ask

I can see about the RAM being ECC when I should of got non-ECC, but I cant see anywhere on the listing about the CPU being ECC.

Did you see something I missed.

Thanks again.

No I wasn't saying the processor was ECC just that the memory wasn't compatible with the motherboard and CPU.

I would suggest just getting some sticks off Crucial or somewhere like that. Buying from Ebay is ok if you are sure of what you are doing and can test their functioning but otherwise you might just end up paying for more unusable memory.

I really appreciate you getting back to me, Ok I have been in contact with a new seller who I showed the MoBo specs to and he assures me the new RAM will work, so that issue is cleared up.

Ok the CPU is odd as it says 3.2Ghz when I right click My Computer and then Properties but directly under that it says 1.59Ghz, any chance you may know what this means.

Thanks again for your help.

Well I am not sure which processor you have installed or whether it is at stock values.

It might just be that the lower value is because the CPU is throttled back as it is in a quiescent state. EIST ramps the power up as it is called for and then back down again afterwards.

Its this one http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SL/SL6WG.html

Im sure its ok for this MoBo http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=1335#sp

And here is the supported CPU list http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=1335

Ok one last thing I promise, why is it not compatible? Whats wrong with it so I dont make the same mistake.

And what MoBo will the CPU fit into?

Many Many Thanks

Hi no problem.

The processor isn't on the supported CPU list that you yourself posted earlier. It lists it a N/A for the BIOS which means that it is not compatible. You will need to check for copmpatibility before purchasing components. Look for a baord and then check to see if the CPU is supported and then the same with the memory. ;)

On the CPU list I thought that N/A meant that the BIOS did not need an update because all of the CPU's are listed underneath the words Since BIOS Version

It's a shame I just cant update the Bios...

Oh well, thanks again
