Title: GA-P55A-UD4 PROBLEM
Post by: _richard_ on December 10, 2010, 09:21:56 pm
My monitor can't detect any signal, my GPU is running but the fan turns fast.

- Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4
- nVidea GTX 460 inno3d
- Patriot 3 x 2GB 1600Mhz
- Intel® Core™ i5-650
- Corsair 750W
- Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

I tried everything:

I use my GPU on my other computer and it works fine. (no problem with GPU)
I use ATI GPU on my Mobo and it works. (no problem with Mobo)

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Can you answer a couple of questions first please?

What revision is your motherboard?

What BIOS version are you currently using?

Is this a new build or one that has been running for a while?

Well there is F15 available but it doesn't mention anything about graphics update but then again it often doesn't tell what it does.

http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3436&dl=1#bios

You didn't say whether it was a new build or not?

Which slot have you got the GPU installed in?

What colour sockets have you got the memory in?

You should have the memory installed in the white slots  DDR3_1 and DDR3_3

Still the same, I hear 1 long and 2 short beep with SLI but If I use CrossFire It works fine.

You didn't mention that you were runing more than one GPU.
Have you got the cards connected up with a bridge?

You just  said there that you are using more than one card at a time?
You can't use a single card in SLI or Crossfire modes. ???

I only use 1, If I use my nVidea my monitor wont detect my gpu, but If I change my GPU to ATI it works fine. So I dont get the problm why my nvideo doesnt work.

I still don't understand where the SLI or Crossfire comes in but I follow the rest of it and are you using the correct output on the back of the GPU?

Which output are you using?

theres 2x6pin at the back so I put both of the PCI

OK that was my next question actually ;) So you have got all the power plugs in.

Back to my other question what output are you using? How have you connected the monitor?

In that case does your nVidea GTX 460 inno3d card use this port as standard automatically?
If so I would say there is something wrong with the card.

But I tried my GTX 460 to another computer and it works. I also tried a low nVidea graphic card and it does the same thing so I think my mobo has a glitch with nVidea? coz ATI works perfectly... But still I dont know why nVidea doesnt work :-(

Hi

Can I ask???  You mention this RAM Patriot 3 x 2GB 1600Mhz now are you saying you have 3 off sticks of 2GB RAM, yes?  Though you only mention installing in two slots (note - white as advised by DM not blue as you first mentioned), now sorry if I have misunderstood or missed anything in the reading but this board AFAIK (I have it but it is all still boxed ~ am wondering just when I will have time to do do my build, SWMBO has just reminded me this evening of all the things still to do before Xmas!!!!)  accepts matched pairs of DDR3 RAM.

Your mention of Patriot 3 x 2GB makes me think you have 3 sticks of RAM such a set if intended for an X58 chipset motherboard though I think you could install 2 of them in this P55 board, DM is that right or will he need totally different RAM if I have 'read' the problem correctly???

Edit - though why the heck an ATI works and nVidea does not if my surmise is right is, to me, a complete mystery???

Just my 2p's worth of thoughts on the problem???

HTH maybe  :)

I agree that this thread is a little confused what with SLI, Crossfire and now kits of Triple Channel memory.

I think the OP needs to list again exactly what components he has so there is no confusion. ???

Yes no problem. It makes no difference what memory the GPU uses.

Right thanks for the video evidence. The only real difference between the tweo cards is the amount of power that they draw. The 460 needs about twice as much as the older Radeon card.

Have you got the two extra power cables attached to the GPU?

Have you got the 8 pin power cable near the CPU on the motherboard?

Let's clear up the SLI/Crossfire area. You don't have Crossfire or SLI as they each require more than one GPU to be installed at once.

2x6pin to gpu = yes
8pin to mobo = yes
I only use one GPU and it's the nVidia GTX 460 Inno3d SLI

The graphics card is SLI capable that is all. SLI stands for Scalable Link Interface and is the way two or more cards can be connected together.

The only other thing I can think of is if the PSU isn't supplying enough power to the graphics card and that is why the lower power card is working and the 460 isn't.

Has Richard clarified the RAM question and based on his feedback could that in some way be implicated in the problems ???

Patriot 2GB PC3-12800 1600MHz CL9 (PSD32G16002H)

and I dont think its the psu coz i also used a low nvidea gpu and its still the same.
and i also try my gpu gtx 460 to another cpu with 650W psu and it works. :(

Hi Richard

Just to clarify, on your OP you said this was the build spec:-

- Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4
- nVidea GTX 460 inno3d
- Patriot 3 x 2GB 1600Mhz
- Intel® Core™ i5-650
- Corsair 750W
- Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

How many pieces of the memory have you got installed as in your list you seem to be saying it is 3 sticks of RAM equalling 6gb in total, is that right?

If so please say which slots you have them in & if not 3 sticks of RAM, how many and in which slots are they placed???

3, 1(blue) 2(white) 3(white) slots

I already tried to run with only 2 memory both in white slols (1 & 3)

Have you checked that this memory is even compatible with this motherboard as it is designed for the X58 chipset not the P55 ?

it works fine with ATI and how come it doesnt with nVidia? i dont think its the memory problem. :s
