i just got the new bios a few minutes ago and a few things got my attention.
1. a silly spelling mistake of "munual" instead of "manual" concerning the new feature
2. my clocks don't seem to be stable when they were with the f6. i am using as c3 cpu. ill get back when i find exactly what my problem is ;)
I'm also going to have a play around with the new core control features and see if i can get any kind of gain. shame that you don't have the option to disable the 2 missing cores from the list as core 1 and 4 are my strongest and disabling 2 and 3 would give me a slight advantage. no biggy

One of the cores is completely unusable.I need to disable it but i don't see how.I didn't fint the option it AOD.Could you tell me the way to it?

Hi Stiliyan :)
In AOD go to preferences and check Advance mode. Now return to the Performance and Control and uncheck Select All Cores

It didn't work.You can't have one core at 800MHz, another on 2200 and the others on 3100.

i read somewhere that core 0 can't disabled completely (turned off) as it holds some base logic of the whole cpu and without this particular core it just can't work :(

If this what you say is true then why this CPU is working and it was on the market with diasbled core which has a basic information about the CPU.I believe in your words as I'm not so cognizant.I hope you are wrong.
At this pic from ASUS's BIOS core 0 appears at all 3-core cases availble on the screen.There is no scroll... :(

I read somewhere that someone who has the MSI motherboard has the same problem as you. In fact he had a problem. MSI BIOS can lock the core of 0. Core 1 is stable up to 3.3 GHz. Now he has the X3 processor with core 1 at 3.3Ghz.
Many people have this problem and I think that people who make GIGABYTE BIOS must attempt to resolve the problem.
Gigabyte boards have the best quality and would be a shame to lose customers because of the problem. Because today is the problem with the X2 BE 550, tomorrow ?.....

even Asus can't disable core 0 & 1 as you can see on the pic you provided.

Think about it.As i have the cpu on defaul the cores are named "Core 0" and "Core 1".This names are wrong because when i turn the CPU into 4-core cpu "Core 0" and "Core 1" are no long "Core 0" and "Core 1" theay change they're number as the new "Core 0" is now the unlocked bad core.So how the processor could work with the essential "Core 0" broken and locked as standart dual-core processor?

no, msi counts cores: 1,2,3,4, while gigabyte: 0,1,2,3 (exactly the same as AMD OverDrive, see the pic posted at:

so: core 3 in msi bios is core 2 in gigabyte bios
core 1 in msi bios is core 0 in gigabyte bios

thanks for the link, it's clearly visable that core 1 in msi (core 0 in gigabyte) can't be disabled , as it's grayed out at "enabled":

I think the Beekeeper right. :-[ You can not lock the first core. Not until Gigabyte teams do fix ;).
With the MSI BIOS can be disabled only the 2nd core if unstable.

yes, there is nothing to be fixed ;D as this is 2 core cpu officially.
i'm afraid that noone (gigabyte, asus or msi) can disable core 0, i wrote already that this particular core holds some base logic of the whole cpu and that's the reason

Beekeeper, I don't think you are understanding what Stillyan is saying.
Stillyan is unlocking two extra cores on his 550BE.
One of the unlocked cores is bad and crashes the system.
After unlock, the unlocked "bad core" is reassigned to either Core 0 or Core 1.
You can't disable Core 0 or Core 1 with the current CPU Core Control option.
No matter what arrangement of numbers for Core assignments gigabyte or anyone else uses, it stands to reason that it should be possible to disable a previously locked core on your processor.
I have the exact same problem on my system with my 550BE. The CPU Control Option won't let me disable the bad core.

Sorry I never got back about this. Seems the bios went back to beta and was then released again with most of the main problems addressed :) still says munual tho lol. Although I did give the f8beta bios a whirl, very good in regards to core stability but lacking very much in the ram and northbridge department, it's lacking a good 30mhz of stability which is very limiting in regards to benchmarking.
The issue of only core 2 and 3 having the option to be disabled is still apparent. The only reason this was an issue for me was the board has major issues running high voltages on quad cores i.e 955 and 965. Disabling the 2 weakest cores allows a higher vcore to be used and higher clocks to be achieved in certain benchmarks because of the power delivery issue. 4 cores and 1.575vcore will vary between 1.55 and 1.585 causing instability :/ whereas with 2 cores it's a steady 1.584 :)
