Title: Z68AP-D3: Can Integrated and Discrete Graphics Cowork?
Post by: XtremZ68 on May 04, 2012, 04:55:22 pm
Until recently, I didn't think that it was possible for the integrated graphics on the core i7 chip to run one monitor and a graphics card to run a different monitor at the same time on a computer. However, I recently read a review that suggested that some motherboards can allow this to happen. This was not a Virtu implementation, afaik (where the PC switches to integrated chip for normal usage and then to graphics card for graphics-intense applications e.g. games).

So... is it possible to have the core i7 integrated chip run one monitor, while a PCI graphics card runs another - with an extended desktop across the monitors? And if so, is it possible on the Z68AP-D3 mother board with a Core i7 2600K.

Hi and welcome.

This is not something that I have heard of and when I first read your post I thought that you were indeed talking about Virtu but it seems not. Even if it were indeed a possibility I can't see that it would also be workable to run an extended desktop across two monitors via the two outputs. I will be interested to hear anybody elses view on this matter.
