I have a server using a GA-G33-DS3R rev1.0 (http://www.giga-byte.co.uk/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2535&dl=1#ov) motherboard, I'm using the onboard graphics chip so the X16 PCIe slot is free.
Can I use the X16 PCIe slot for a SAS/Sata Raid Controller? or can it only be used for Graphics Cards on this motherboard?
The raid controller I have in mind is the Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816101358&Tpk=supermicro%20aoc-saslp-mv8), I know it's a low profile card, but I can get around that if it'll work with the motherboard's X16 PCIe slot.
Thanks for any input,
Mark.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
There is no reason why you cant use any card in the PCIE slot as long as it fits. Hope this helps.

Wow! thanks for the quick reply, I was reading a your response in another thread about a different motherboard/Raid combo (http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2390.msg13913.html#msg13913) but that didn't appear to be resolved. I'll go ahead & order the card, thanks ;D

I'm afraid your link didn't work so I couldn't check it.
That's better now you have modified it. ;)

Apologies, I've modified link in both my previous posts, the forums software doesn't need the "quotes" that other systems seem too,
Thanks,
Mark.

I checked the other post and that was a different story even though similar. I just checked the manual on your board and there is nowhere it says anything other then PCIE x16 which if it conforms to the standard then it will take any other PCIE card that fits.
