Title: Is there any fix for DES 2.0 sabotage?
Post by: New User on November 08, 2011, 02:00:42 am
Hi all,
I've been really happy with the X58 Sniper so far, owning it a couple months.  I made the mistake of trying out DES 2.0.  It froze up my OS when I accessed the advanced options--Windows 7 64-bit.  I tried opening it up several times afterwards and had no success.  Thus, I got sick of it and decided to uninstall it.  Good riddance.  That was likely my mistake because I didn't "turn it off" before the uninstallation.  I restarted to complete the uninstall, and I have no video to monitor. But, it still posts, and the OS still loads...Great.  Absolutely nothing done so far has worked to rectify the issue.  I'm using a RAID 10 set up, so fully clearing the CMOS by removing the battery isn't something I want to do unless there's 100% guarantee it will also erase the (firmware?) from the DES 2.0.  I know for certain that that is what's causing the problem.

So to reiterate:  What are my options (because I do NOT want to RMA)  to fix this issue caused by DES 2.0.   I wish I could use another computer to access my own but I can't =(  What if I switch up the hard drives or disconnect the raid and use one from another computer?

And I guess it goes without saying, this programs should not be used.

Thank you!
Edit: Tech support was not very helpful and evaded the whole issue of DES causing instability.

Hi

This is the sort of problem that often occurs when using these types of programs and hence why we alaways advise steering well clear of them. Most bundled software ends in a damaged system.

Usually I would advise reinstallation of the offending piece of software and then a proper uninstal following that however in your case that sounds impossible. It might be possible to boot off a bootable USB pendrive or CD with something like a Live Linux version on it. Hopefully then you could do a repair and clean it all off properly. I would make sure that you save you RAID array before doing anything though.

Thank you.  I was able to get a signal to monitor after using a cheap gpu (they're good for something after all!!!).  After which I then did as you mentioned above.  Problem was fixed! Although it was easier written here than done =)

I am glad to hear that the advice worked and you managed to get it fixed. I always try to steer people away from these bundled program as more often than not they cause problems. ;)
