Just as a matter of interest I wondered how many people actually knew the answer to this question. I think most of us know how big the total size of the BIOS is but would the image on your hard drive be different?
-
I will supply the answer after everyone has had the chance to vote. ;)
-
OK, I'll play along and vote if it keeps you happy!
-
Ecstatic! ;D
-
Haven't got a clue ???
Voted on a logical assumption.
Do we get a prize for a correct guess ::)
I must say I like your new Gold/Silver avatars, very posh.
Bill.
-
Get a prize, you've got to be kidding. This is DM we're talking about!! :o
-
I thought the GOLD bit meant he had lotsa pennies.
-
No the "gold bit" is Gigabyte 's way of getting me to do this for free ::) It was either that or pay someone. :-\
-
The occasional thank you is more valuable than all the gold in Bill Gates pocket.
I thank you both.
Bill.
-
Yes Bill and that is why we do it. Thank you for your kind words ;)
-
I agree but.....
I would like some of Bill Gate's money! :D
-
Meee toooo! ;) Screw the Gold Medal ;D
-
Just thought I'd bump this so .......
BUMP! :o
-
Not sure of the answer but have taken a guess. When will you post the answer?
-
virtualcrowbar I will post the answer when everybody wants me to. ;)
-
Oooo. Don't we like our position of power! I want to know.
Actually, I already know the answer so Nah, nah, na, nah nah! :P
-
I know that you know already, but other people don't. I was wondering if runn3R knew(without cheating that is).
-
How could I not cheat ;) if is still have many bios files on my HDD even from old BX chipset motherboards? Not to mention to the newest ones...
-
Right well I guess that it's time to spill the beans so to speak and let everyone know the answer. I must admit to being as in the dark about this as anyone else until I was discussing it with GGTS one day. The standard BIOS chip will hold 8MB of which 1 MB is used for the updates but to create an image of the BIOS requires 128MB on the hard drive. I couldn't believe it myself and argued the point but they assured me that it was correct. This was the reason I was told why they dont enable the Backup BIOS to Hard Drive option by default. :o
-
Well, it seems a bit like overkill to me.
I have some really heavy duty Audio Apps that don't need that much HDD space!
-
No I remember my first Windows installation version 3.11 which was considered the big one as it was for Workgroups and that only took up 23Mb on the drive.
