Title: ocz revodrive compatibility with gigabyte 790FXTA-UD5
Post by: DeusXXX on July 16, 2012, 12:01:11 am
I own a gigabyte 790FXTA-UD5 coupled with a phenomII x4 965,
2x4gb kingston hyperX@1600MHz, a sapphire 5870 1gb,
2x640gb caviar black's(sata2) in RAID 0 and all these are plugged in my trusty
Nexus 1000Watt PSU.

I bought this motherboard a couple of years ago solely for the reason of being equipped
with a sata 3 controller. Unfortunately, from the information i am gathering,
a RAID 0 array with sata 3 ssd's won't function at the expected read/write speed
due to limitations of the Marvell 9128 controller.

A small note here.
There is a banner in the boxing and in the outlayer of the manual stating:
SATA 3.0 4x Speed (12G bps via RAID 0)
I consider this as the definition of false advertisement.
Note ends here.

Since a sata 3 raid expansion card is out of the question due to cost,
i am considering on bying either OCZ RevoDrive3 120GB SSD PCI-Express X4 SSD
or OCZ RevoDrive X2 160GB SSD PCI-Express x4 SSD depending on what i
will find first and the price ofcourse.

I was hoping if anyone has experience with said motherboard and drives,
would share it. Any other solution to the matter that i haven't thought of
would also be welcome.

P.S. I am also thinking on buying  a second 5870.
Anyone tried that with good results?

On your ssd drives you have to get ones that are raid compatiable. Like the corsair force 3

I have the RevoDrive3 120GB & it works fine with a single video card. Crossfire is another story. It tries to boot but keeps cycling.

Okay, figured it out. Two VC's & a RevoDrive3 can coexist. I'm up & running with Crossfire. It was just a BIOS setting that needed to be changed.
