40 % on idle seems to be loud for this card, Would be great to have it on 30-35% , otherwise this card is amazing.
-
i have the same issue, looked everywhere for a safe way to flash to a custom bios or anything to be able to set it to 30%, would be amazing if this possible.
-
Have you both tried MSI Afterburner ?
-
Yip tried just about every program out there, it seems its capped at 40%

i read it might be possible to flash the vbios to a custom one, but after doing a fair bit of reading i got a bit worried about trying it and what to use, i also contacted gigabyte support a few days ago but haven't heard anything.
-
Yes, tried MSI Aftferburner aswell, and the same idle speed, looks like it locked in bios on 40 %.

BTW, thanks for your fast response, really appreciate.

I would agree then that it would seem to be a setting that's actually locked into the firmware. If that's the case only a customisation of the firmware will do any good. There was someone a while ago who was shouting about some chap on a Nvidia forum who was really good at doing just that but I can't remember the name now. Maybe a search of the forum here might help you dig him up.
I think the software he was using for the job was Nibitor
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Video-Tweak/NVIDIA-BIOS-Editor.shtml
On nVidia cards you can use Nibitor to edit the firmware and reduce the fan speed from 40% to 30%
-
I managed to back up my firmware, however it saves it as a .file rather than a .rom i'm not sure how to edit it and Nibitor wont open it :(
-
I have the 3GB 580 GTX cards, and they are not supported BIOS of 70.10.48.00.01 in fermi or nibitor. You can still make changes to fan speed and voltage.
I have changed my BIOS to 1.213 and 30% min fan speed can be done.
You should have the same BIOS on your CARD.If you upload it here I will make the change for you to 30% min. There is always a risk when flashing BIOS.
Save bios in gpu-z I will change it for ya.
-
I see gerardfraser got there before me with that one. As he said use GPU-Z to save the BIOS file for the GPU and you should be alright. You can download it mhere if you haven't already got it.

Thank you for the help guys, here's the bios i get from GPU-Z and a screen shot not sure if it helps, i understand the risk of flashing the bios, but if everythign works out i know it will be worth it, i spent so much time making my computer near silent, it's the only thing that lets it down. Hopefully Supernova can get his sorted to, sorry for hijacking the thread as well, i know how it feels.

Yes that all looks normal. In case you don't know you backup the BIOS by using the little icon at the end of the BIOS line.
Good luck and let us know how you get on. ;)
-
I'm still unable to edit the bios, i tried Nibitor among other programs however they say that they do not support the card :(
-
I am sorry that I am unable to help you further as I use Radeons. I am sure there must be someone that has experience of Nvidia card firmware. :-\

Here ya go.You should be able to read BIOS in Nibitor and I changed it to 30%.Good luck man.

That seems more like it now. Just a case of doing a bit of digging around until you come to the bit you need. Now you can have a nice quiet Christmas! ;D

has anyone tried to ask gigabyte directly through ggts.gigabyte.com?
it could be worth to do it...
i don't have this card but if many users from different countries start to ask them then maybe they will do some bios to fix it ...just a thought

I've sent a ticket in waiting for a reply, seems that EVGA have there own fan fix for there 5series cards, wish i knew that earlier, hopefully gigabyte will follow suit, as i can't find a program to flash the card with the modded bios.

I gave up on gigabyte, i don't think there support is English, i did ask if they would issue fan fixes like EVGA have, they just said there isn't a bios, i gave up saying the same thing, a weeks wait for not very much, on the other hand the card plays games pretty well, roll on the 6series will defo keep an eye out on fan speeds with the next version, although think i'll look for an American/English company.

Hi Cutter
I know that GGTS can be a bit awkward to deal with but instead try PMing runn3R. He is the only Gigabyte official on this forum and is a tech so maybe he can help you. He is also the Forum Administrator.

Let us know how you get on please.
-
Thanks Dark, message sent, will keep you updated.

Hi Cutter and All
There is a chance to prepare special bios(es) for this VGA. You need to provide exact SN and bios version (as GV-N56GOC-1GI has a few original bios versions) to us. Please use GGTS as below described. Thanks
