Hi all,I have to increase the RAM amount from 6 GB to 12. I have installed since I built my pc the following OCZ kit OCZ3P1600LV6GK.This kit isn't anymore available at my usual shops so I want to ask you if the following kit won't give me any problems (in combination with the OCZ one) : CMP6GX3M3A1600C7 (Corsair 6GB Kit 3*2GB DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 DHX Dominator CAS7).I know it would be better to buy a 12 GB kit but what would I do with my actual kit ?
Lastly : does eventually a 12 GB RAM kit (at 1,65 volts) will have some issues on my CPU (I7 950 3.02 GHZ) ?

Hi and welcome.

I am afraid the bad news is that although it is possible the chances are that any different memory modules you add to your existing ones will not play ball. Sometimes even the same kits can be a problem to get working together let alone different ones. Your best course of action would be to sell your present RAM and buy a full matched kit of six modules or even a kit of three 4GB modules which would give you the same 12GB total. ;)

1.65v is fine with your system.

  agreed I'm afraid.....it's not impossible, but how would you feel forking out for modules that don't end up working ....then you have 2 sets to dispose of.......Aria or scan have some amazing prices for 12Gb kits......start at about £80 for a matched kit

I was lucky & picked up 3x4gb Kingston 1600@1.65 v now running on XMP at around £69.00. Blew over a £100.00 on
6gb of OCZ last year that was wrong spec. On one of my PCs tried to run an identical pair ie two matched pairs & had
problems even though same make & spec.

Yes this is the problem Tinker as I explained to the OP you cannot rely on even another kit of the same make and model working with the original memory. Usually it will but it's not a given.

Gentlemen,thanks for your answers.....I read that is better having a RAM kit with lower latency (staying in my case on  a 1600MHz kit) then having a 2000 MHZ kit with cas at 10 or more ? Is it correct ?

The higher speed memory (2000) will be better if you are going after high overclocks but if you are sticking to the default speeds or thereabouts then it is better to have a memory with tighter timings. Usually tight timings will actuall result in more throughput than just sheer speed.
