Title: Motherboards with 2, 3 or more slots betwen PCIE16x/PCIE8X
Post by: 5nowcrAsh on February 08, 2018, 10:14:40 pm
Hi,

I got me 2 x Gigabyte 1080 gtx TI Aorus and the idea is to put them in SLI. But, those crads are huge (H=55 L=293 W=142 mm), and when i put them in my current Motherboard GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 with just 1 slot spacing, they are just to close. The upper card gets hot really fast, like 75c and higher and the noise level goes up too. Now I'm searching for motherboards with socket 1151 that have two, three or even more space between PCIEX16 and PCIEX8 slot.
Any recommendations are welcome.

EDIT:
I have my eye on GIGABYTE AORUS GA-Z270X-Gaming 8 Mainboard - Intel Z270 - Intel LGA1151 socket - DDR4 RAM - ATX
But will SLI work if i put my second card into one of two bottom slots? I don't mind the HB SLI bridge, plan to use the flexi ones 120 mm.

Sry for my broken English.

THX in advance

You will have to keep looking because the board you are look at is the same as the one you got. You might have to look another socket or brand. You have to cards that should really run in x16 & x16 or x16 & x8. I wouldn't go to the x4 slot.

I love gigabyte boards...  but when it comes to video cards... size matters  :P  LoL

I agree with what dmdilks said.  You're going to be hard pressed to find an SLI solution in socket 1151 with cards that avg 55mm.  2.16in. each.  Is WC an option?

I considered WC too, but i would be happier with a simple solution like just changing the motherboard and install additional 120mm fan inside the case to help to disperse the hot air. I found a motherboard that has 2 slots distance, possibly three, ASRock Z270 SuperCarrier.

But I am using Gigabyte boards since 2002, and don't wont to change.

I looks like 2018 is year of changes, my first ever nvidia GPU, and looks like a new motherboard brand..

I used Abit boards for yrs and when they went under I switch to Gigabyte. But if you want it to work you might have to go to another Brand. Plus the ASRock boards have come a long way from their start. Yes the ASRock Z270 Super Carrier looks good you be working with two x16 slots too.
