Because some computers run with the drivers embedded in Windows or use special Windows versions

WinXP --> not many drivers
VISTA --> ++ drivers
WIN7 --> ++++ drivers !!

You will need to load the LAN drivers from the website ideally or the supplied disk when you do a fresh install of the OS.

Hi there,

With Windows Operating Systems you need to load drivers.

If you use a Linux Distribution such as Ubuntu, Mint, or another distro, you don't normally need to install drivers.

Hi again,

if the motherboard is an older model, Microsoft incorporated a lot of drivers so you don't need to install them. These are usually Generic Drivers that may not have all of the options available from dedicated drivers.

For newer motherboards the drivers are not included by Microsoft as the hardware (ethernet controllers, USB3, SATA3 etc.) were released after Microsoft launched Windows 7, which is why we have to load them.

Absic's explanation is spot on and that is the reasoning for having to load the drivers now.

The X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0 is newer than rev 1.0 ;)
