Title: Z68AP-D3 Rev. 2 - Upgraded BIOS and now can't boot
Post by: DogFace on April 16, 2012, 09:18:49 pm
I broke my own cardinal rule for BIOS upgrades: If nothing's broken, leave it alone.

I have a Z68AP-D3 Rev. 2 motherboard. My PC was working just fine with BIOS version FB.  Yesterday I "upgraded" to version FD.  Now my PC won't boot.  When I turn it on, the fans spin, but it doesn't appear to post and the screen stays blank.  There are no beeps.  I'd like to simply revert back to version FB, but I don't know how if I can't get it to do anything.  Any suggestions?

My CPU is a Core i5-2500K.  It is not overclocked.  I have 16 MB (2x8MB) of Corsair DDR3 1333 RAM and a Sapphire Radeon HD 6970 video card.  I have three SATA hard drives and a SATA DVD drive, a Firewire card, a PS/2 keyboard and a wireless USB mouse.  There is some other stuff like a UPS device, etc.

Try doing an extended CMOS clear (disconnect power, drain down, remove battery, leave overnight. Load Optimised BIOS Default settings, save and exit)

If that doesn't work the try this instead to reflash the Backup BIOS over the Main BIOS.

You can kick in the backup BIOS by shutting down the PSU from the wall, then hold down your case power button in and then turn on the power supply button, a few seconds later the board will start, shut off the power supply then.   Then you can turn on the power supply again and power up the board normally and DualBIOS will kick in.

The extended CMOS clear technique worked great.  Thank you for your help.
