What is SMMruntime service in BIOS?
My BIOS is F14. Is it necessary to upgrade to F16h?
Thanks!

If you are not having any problems then leave well enough a lone.

I do have issues, like USB3 ports don't work well sometimes and hard drives on Marvell SATA3 ports will be treated as removeable media.
But I don't know if the BIOS can fix them.

Anyway, I updated it right now. Let's see if any problems. Hope not ;D

Its doubtful the BIOS you updated to will have any affect on your issues. Like dmdilks, I'm also of the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" belief.
You haven't said what OS you are running. USB support in W10 with Z77 chipset has been flakey on several boards. There are two settings which you can look at in BIOS regarding USB support (pre-boot). See my comment here.

As far as hot plug support goes. This is a native feature of AHCI. Some BIOS will allow you to disable hot plug on individual ports. If supported, doing so will remove the "safely remove' icon from your system tray. You can probably manually hide it as well using "Taskbar Notifications". Name varies depending on OS. Good luck.

Yes, it's Win 10 with Z77 chipset. Will try your suggestions.
For the hot plug, I got the workaround that uninstall the 3rd party chipset drive and Microsoft embedded AHCI drive will work and I use register entry to make the ports to be recognized as internal ports so that the drives on the 3rd party SATA3 ports will not be shown as removable media.
