Hi everyone its my first post on these forums, so a BIG HELLO to all. i recently bought a gigabyte GA-G41MT-S2P Motherboard it has realtek high deffinition audio so i belive :). i hooked up my pc to my samsung lcd HD television. dipplay is good but i cant get any audio, on my last motherboard, when i went into audio settings there was a option to make hdmi default. but i cant find anything now, when i go to Playback devices on my sound it only shows speakers ? any help would be very much appreciated thanks

Did you connect the TV to the VGA connector or are you using a video card?
If the former, you'll have to connect your LINE OUT to the TV (or receiver) as well; if the latter, you may have to use an internal cable to connect the video card's HDMI audio to the motherboard.
-
im using the HDMI socket on my video card, i had a quick look at the video card there is a small white connector on it, where on the motherboard should i plug it in, i already have the cable that connects the front jacks of my case plugged into the motherboard audio socket.
-
ok i just had a look at the video card and there is a spdif socket with no wire plugged in. but i have no spdif socket on my motherboard :(
-
Momentary Lapse of Reason: you aren't using SPDIF; the audio should come from the bus. This should help:
http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU70NoAudiofromHDTV.aspx
Since you had the HDMI output option and (it vanished?), check your HDMI connection to the TV.
-
not sure what to do now :( anyway main problem is, on my old motherboard there was a white spdif socket and i had a thin cable connected from my video card to motherboard, but on the new gigabyte motherboard there is no white spdif socket on it, and when i plug a hdmi cable to the video card ant then into the tv. the video is good but no sound, then i go to the playback tab on my sound settings it only has one device and thats the speakers for my pc, and im running windows 7, sorry if i missed something, i am quiet new to all this :)
-
I haven't used HDMI yet, so take what I say lightly.
I think the internal SPDIF connection is when you want to use SPDIF externally. I think the normal HDMI audio comes from the PCIe bus, no other internal connection is necessary. The linked article suggested a below spec HDMI cable can cause the problem you're having. Support for your video card may be more useful if you don't get any help here.

Hi and welcome Welshy.
Audio isn't my strong point so don't expect miracles but Rolo is correct you don't require a seperate SPDIF cable to use the HD sound via HDMI output as the port/cable transfers sound as well as video. Have you made sure that you have all the right drivers installed for the audioo side ?
-
Check the version of your HDMI cable (1.4b etc), going to control panel>sound on win 7 will show all devices, right click in the box and show disabled/disconnected devices, see if it brings it up, if you have nvidia graphics go into the nvidia control panel and see if when plugged in it recognises your tv..
-
checked the drivers. downloaded the drivers off the gigabyte website for my motherboard, and its still the same. went into control panel then sound and it only has my speakers for the device, tried right clicking in the box checked and unchecked the 2 boxes show disabled devices and show disconnected devices and still nothing :( also went on to my nvidia control panel it shows my samsung tv and under connector it say HDMI - HDTV Audio Enabled. so i have no idea what im doing wrong .
-
This is the exact model mother board i have : http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4024&dl=1#sp
-
Can you list your hardware please as that might shed some light on the problem.
What GPU are you using as the HD audio will come directly from that.
-
im using a NVIDIA GEForce 9600 gs. quiet a basic card but it has HDMI output
-
Make sure that those drivers and outputs are listed as the default ones then.
-
ah well i give up :)
-
Do you have the nVidia High-Def Audio driver installed with the video driver?
Does it show in Device Manager?
-
hmm cant find it anywhere in device manager :(
-
Install the 285.62 driver (or later, if you're inclined to run betas) from www.nvidia.com - select custom install to ensure the HD audio driver installs. The Windows update driver is a bare-bones version.
-
It sounds to me as if you haven't got the full driver set installed just the video driver. Make sure that you have downloaded and installed al the drivers.
-
ok i just downloaded beta NVIDIA Drivers Version 295.51 used custom linstall and thes are whats is displayed.
Graphics Driver
3D Vision Controller Driver
3D Vision Driver
NVIDIA Update
PhysX system Software.
thats all i can find there nothing about the audio ?
-
Nuts.
Try installing it without the HDMI cable connected (assuming you have another display).
-
Just tried that and its still the same. :(
-
What setting have you got in the BIOS for the Azalia codec ?
-
for azalia audio in BIOS there was 2 option, auto and disable mine was on auto
-
Well I don't think it would make any difference anyway but it is for the onboard RealTek audio. Just clutching at straws to be honest.
-
you guys sure the spdif socket on the video card has nothing to do with it, on my last motherboard im quiet sure there was a wire connecting from the spdif on the video card to the spdif on the motherboard, and it worked then :( just on my new motherboard there is no spdif socket
-
There is no reason to have a SPDIF connection to the motherboard as far as I know. The audio should be transferred down the bus and then via the HDMI cable which carries audio and video.
-
maybe my video card doesn't support doing it that way. might depend on the spdif connection, NVIDIA 9600 GS just a guess :(
-
The absence of the HD Audio driver lets me think you are correct.
-
Has anyone else got this version of the graphics card and can verify that this is indeed the case ?
-
i think its time i should upgrade my video card :(
-
Azalia must be disabled to use other audio. With that said, I had to buy a sound card myself to use audio because HDMI audio was a huge fail for me too (ATI HDMI). It would work, but SUPER LOW, I mean LOW as in you could not hear it barely even if you were to crawl inside of the speaker :D
-
im using the onboard audio, will it not work if i disable Azalia ?
-
Onboard audio = Azalia
HDMI audio = Graphics card audio processing
They can't be both enabled/used at the same time
-
Unless its specific to that board/chipset or HDMI specifically, I cannot agree. (Though disabling on-board sound for troubleshooting is a good idea.)
I've used multiple audio devices for years now: on-board, Sound Blaster add-on (even up to three SB cards), HDMI, Bluetooth earpiece. Typically, I use on-board for voice comms and Sound Blaster for real sound.
-
Well, I know it's a Gigabyte thing for sure, it's right in the manual and I've always had to disable it anytime I've used add-on audio cards.

Of course, I'm no audio pro (Don't care), so maybe I've never tinkered with it the right way, and I've also only tried with one speaker source anyway?
For my speakers, I could only use one or the other, and HDMI audio via ATI was so tiny a gnat would squint to hear it. << And that may be the same issue the OP is having, I bought a cheap card to get around that, but have since went back to onboard. I only use speakers for mail notifications, or the occasional tech video, so it doesn't really matter to me how it's setup as long as it's working. I just dropped my thoughts here because it seemed like no one was mentioning this, and I had experienced similar with HDMI audio.

It is a good idea to disable on-board for troubleshooting.
Plug-n-Play/resource pooling eliminates conflicts and Windows facilitates multiple audio devices; it lets you prioritise them and specify different audio devices for normal sound and voice comms.
My wife has a G930 headset in addition to a SB X-fi, on-board audio, and HDMI audio. When she turns on the headset, it takes priority over the SB X-fi (connected to Klipsch 5.1 speakers) for normal sounds. The on-board Realtek is always set for voice comms with its own mic and monitor-mounted speakerbar; which is handy for MMO raids.
I used to DJ a little and I had three SB Live!s used by Winamp; two to drive two different PAs in different rooms and one for headphones to preview; on-board sound was for Windows system sounds (not pleasant over a cranked PA!).
Really odd the manual would say that any time after Windows 3.1/95.
