Hi...
When I was about to install the processor, I found out something strange on my GA-X58A-UD3R. Hope runn3R will look into this soon...
Firstly, I think the orientation of the CPU socket protector is wrong! Due to the wrong orientation I believe Gigabyte staff must have tried pretty hard to push the CPU socket level down into "locked" position and if you observe carefully it has caused damages to the CPU socket protector. The damages were due to pressured contact with the "Alignment Keys".

As you say the protector plate was on back to front. What idiot did that! As far as the alien piece goes it doesn't actually LOOK like a bent pin but of course it is hard to tell from a photo even a high res one. Can you use a magnifying glass to see better? I think you had best wait for runn3R to make a descision on what to do about it. I think that a carefull application of a pin would probably do the trick but it's not my call.
What a bummer though after all the agro you went through to have it turn up like that. :'(
Anyway let us know what runn3R says.

As you say the protector plate was on back to front. What idiot did that! I couldn't believe a Gigabyte staff would did such a mistake. May be the Gigabyte staff is rushing...
I'm not sure if it's just a non-conductive particle or a bent pin. I will bring the board to my lab tonight and hopefully the magnifying glass in my lab will be good enough to let me checking all the pins carefully.
I still remember an ASUS customer complained about bent pin in another forum but his requested for RMA was rejected because ASUS UK said their OC would never go wrong! Now you see manufacturer or distributor can go wrong too sometimes...

I cancelled the plan tonight... It's better to wait for runn3R's opinion. If he gives the green light to remove the particle (if it's a particle or fibre), then I will bring to my lab and hopefully with the magnifying glass and fine tweezers I will be able to remove it. If it's a bent pin, I'm not sure if I could repair it or not.

First of all sorry for the problem :-[, I will talk with persons who did the test and prepared the ship out to avoid such situations. >:( I agree it's totally unacceptable.
Second - try to remove this "particle" (if it's a plastic particle - for me it seems like it is a particle from broken CPU socket protector). Even the photos you provided have very good quality I can't be sure. Then align the pin (with forceps) if it will be still bended.
