Title: VIA XHCI USB 3.0 driver fails to install on Win7 x64
Post by: rr72 on November 22, 2013, 05:37:05 pm
Just completed a new build using a GA-78LMT-USB3 motherboard, rev 5.0.

Everything is fine except the VIA XHCI Host Controller (USB 3.0) driver will not install. This is on a brand new install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (no Service Pack). I am using the latest VIA driver from the Gigabyte product page (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4602#driver).

This is the error log:

I would install sp1 first then try again.

It turned out to be the order in which I installed the drivers, strangely enough (or that seems the most likely at this point, anyway). I attempted to install this driver before the chipset driver and ran into the errors, even after I then installed the chipset driver. I performed a clean re-install of Windows, after which I installed the chipset, then the USB 3.0 driver. That fixed my problem.

BUMP,
I'm having a similar problem. I just built the system but the front and rear USB are not working. System says the USB controller is missing. I searched for drivers. Reinstalled the chip set drivers then the USB drivers. I verified the USB was activated in the BIOS and then did a clean install of all software and still nothing. The Drives I plug into the USB are spinning and getting power, but that's it. Any help is appreciated. I've got 48 hours to get this system running before I'm out in the field for 8 weeks.

Are you saying that none of the USB ports are working? The USB 2.0 ports are controlled by the chipset while the USB 3.0 ports are controlled by a separate VIA chip. They have separate drivers. It would be strange if none of them were working.

I've got pretty much the same problem with a new GA-78LMT-USB3 board (v5.0).  The USB3 ports don't work at all, the VIA driver installer aborts because it says it cannot detect any hardware, and there's no sign of any USB3 ports or xHCI devices in the Device Manager.

The USB3 controller is definitely enabled in the BIOS.

Is there anything else I can try before rejecting the board as faulty?

Got the same problem reinstalling w7 on a ga-78lmt-usb3 and a ga-990fxa-ud3. Be sure to chose your mobo's correct rev at gigabyte's download site.
78lmt rev 5.0 uses VIA and rev 4.1 uses etron.. Same for the ga-990, I made the mistake of clicking the first google result and it sent me to rev 1.0.... of course the driver didn't work but as soon as I realized this everything went fine.

I had two identical 78LMT-USB3 rev 5 boards with FX 4130 CPU and 4x4GB Kingston HyperBlu 1600, one worked perfectly and one had all of the problems listed above, I have RMA'd the faulty board. I am also having the same problems on a 970A-DS3P, cannot install win7 or Win 8.1 and dopn't know where to go next other than another RMA. With the 970A-DS3P I have tried it with F1 & F2H vers of BIOS, no difference. On my boards that worked, they eventually loaded "0100 (Microsoft) XHCI drivers" after I had failed witty drivers from Gigabyte and VIA. I had no issues with a 78LMT-USB3 Rev4 other than having to maqnually clock the RAM chips. I have another Asus Board with an A10-5800K and that also worked. All had HD6670 video cards & 4 HDD & 2 optical drives and 2 had Corsair C600 PSU and 2 had X-Viper 650 watt PSU. I have 40 years IT experience and these have been some of the weirdest issues I have  ever seen.

The same problem happens on the Rev 6.0 78LMT-USB3 board (VIA chipset), so I'm assuming it's a driver problem myself.

I have two Rev 6.0 boards and to avoid any issues, what I did was disable USB3 in the BIOS and then added a PCI USB2 card. USB3 isn't really a big deal for me as none of my external drives use USB3 (one did, but I removed it out of the plastic Seagate case and installed it in a Probox USB2 enclosure).
