Title: Overlocking Intel Core 2 Quad Processor
Post by: Raven710 on June 03, 2011, 06:17:24 am
Hey, I'm pretty new to the intricacies of gaming, so if you could speak as plainly as possible, it'd be great.

About a year ago, I built my gaming machine, which after a few mishaps, works perfectly. But as I've been gaming, the idea of having a truly fast computer has been growing more and more attractive. My computer is already brilliant, though I have some frustration with the internet speeds in Australia (DL: 11Mb/s UL: 60kb/s) and I know the risks of overclocking, however I have 5 independent fans, as well as one over my processor, video card and Power supply and a self-contained water cooling system for my motherboard. As it makes me cold just sitting next to it, I have little fear of my computer overheating.
My specs are as follows;

Gigabyte EP45-Extreme Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Processor; Core speed: 2000Mhz, 33.3Mhz Bus speed with 1.1Volts
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 memory card with a 300Mhz core and 896 MB memory plus a Bus width of 448bits
Gigabyte GE-MK20A-D1 1200W Odin Power supply
4 Terabyte memory

Getting to the point, I'd like some instructions on how to Overclock my processor, and I came here because I want to do it right. If there are any other specs you need, please tell me how to find them, as I said, I'm still new to this. Thanks for your time  ;D

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

I would suggest that you need to do some reading on the subject first as it is just as important to know why you are doing something as to know what to do. Try here for a start :

Also what is the actual processor? I don't believe there is a 2GHz one, and that is just with speedstep running or something for the 6x multiplier.

Other than that there is a great article on overclocking that generation of CPU:
