Title: please help i think i have everything set up right apart from the power button!!
Post by: bongbongbong on August 11, 2011, 09:35:27 pm
Hi i am using a gigabyte s-series g31m-es2l botherboard with an intel pentium dualcore cpu. I have connected the dvd-rw drive by ide and connected the hard drive by SATA. I have connected all the plugs from the power supply to the drives, mobo, etc.
I have a feeling that its the connecters on my case the tiny 1 prong or two prong connecters that slot onto a little pin of metal.  I just cant figure out what way round they are meant to go.  Iv consulted the manual with no help can anyone help me!?

Hi and welcome.

I take it that we are talking about the Front Panel Connectors.

The connectors for the switches don't mind which way round you put them so no worries there. The LED connections have to be the correct way round or they won't work. You cant damage them by putting them the wrong way so don't worry about that either. Just make sure that you put the right plugs on to the right connector pins. ;)

Ok the thing to do is start from scratch. Remove all the unneccessary components from the power and motherboard and then try again. I take it that you have connected both the 24 pin and 8 pin power cables to the motherboard ?

Sorry my mistake it is only a four pin on your motherboard. It is near the CPU socket. There is a little square connector block that needs to be connected to the PSU.

After you added all the parts and connected all the cables , do a recheck and see if it's all OK !

Maybe the wires for the power button are somewhere interrupted . Try and put the Reset Button (connector) in the Power Switch pins !
Or...... hmm you can power it by making a link between the two power pins with a metal pen or something . Much like powering a car when you don't have a key.... or you wanna steal it !  :D

To be honest if you are just using the same cr*p PSU that came with a case then it is no good anyway and needs replacing with a decent make and model. Get something aorund 650W made by Enermax, Seasonic, Gigabyte, Corsair, Thermaltake etc. If possible try and get one with a single 12v rail as they are better.

Your standard ones that are supplied with cases often go down and take a lot of your decent hardware with them which can be a costly experience.
